I've been debating whether or not to post this as I don't intend to open up a religous discussion on this thread. However, election time is drawing near, and our liberties are at stake. I've heard repeated calls on FR to get out and vote. I encourage that as well. Many have said that this election will depend on which party does better with their "get out and vote" methods. We must certainly do our best.

However, I would like to take it a step further. This election may be beyond our control, but we need to recognize that there is one who is sovereign over all.

I say this to suggest that we should be offering up a petition of prayer from now until the election is finalized. I also suggest fasting as a sign of the importance of this issue to yourself. I've started my fast. If you agree to pray and/or fast with me over this, reply to this message with an acknowlegement. I believe if enough people agree to do this diligently, great things will happen.

What happens if we aren't of the same religion, or if we vote for different people?

I'm praying that both the Senate and the House will have Republican majorities on Wednesday.

Remember: Pope Palladin says it is a MORTAL SIN to vote for a Democrat.

I will stop to vote on my way into work tomorrow morning. Since reaching voting age (it was 21 back then), I have NEVER missed an election.

Bumping some of the Catholic freepers, many of whom have been actively fasting.

Also, RnMomof7 and DrSteveJ, can you bump your protestant lists? This is an important election.

what's it like to believe in god?

It is like coming to the one place in the world where I can find objective truth in all things. It is realizing that mercy trumps judgement, and that is, in the end, the only hope I have.

I've been praying about these elections for weeks and weeks. Hmm, make that months and months.

You are right, God is in control.

Not as effectual as believing in GOD, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit

However, believing in the Christian trinity is a life altering event, I'd suggest the experience for everyone.

I'm not really sure, since I have no basis for comparison. it probably appears very cynical relative to those who do. I personally don't think anyone (outside of the humans I surround myself with) is looking out for me on the whole, let alone worrying over who gets a senate majority.

I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of people praying for democrat victories. so who gets the answer they want?

well, at the slight risk of starting an ideological debate, is this just the sort of situation where if "we" don't win tomorrow, it's just rationalized as part of god's plan for us? that we're not ready yet? or not deserving?

Amen prayer bump for the FACT that there WILL come a day 'when every knee will bow and every tongue shall confess', whether it's preceded by a decision to believe while in the flesh...or not.

and I think it's truly great that you find fulfillment in that. but, allowing for the possibility that there IS a god, do you think he/she/it is really worrying about whether or not norm coleman defeats walter mondale?
