I've been debating whether or not to post this as I don't intend to open up a religous discussion on this thread. However, election time is drawing near, and our liberties are at stake. I've heard repeated calls on FR to get out and vote. I encourage that as well. Many have said that this election will depend on which party does better with their "get out and vote" methods. We must certainly do our best.

However, I would like to take it a step further. This election may be beyond our control, but we need to recognize that there is one who is sovereign over all.

I say this to suggest that we should be offering up a petition of prayer from now until the election is finalized. I also suggest fasting as a sign of the importance of this issue to yourself. I've started my fast. If you agree to pray and/or fast with me over this, reply to this message with an acknowlegement. I believe if enough people agree to do this diligently, great things will happen.

At least in being disruptive on a prayer thread, the disruptors give believers specific names to add to their prayer lists.

Hugs!

Is that prayer from all religious faiths? If so, then God must truly listen to everyone that prays to Him, regardless of their beliefs.

"wow, that didn't take long."

Do you agree, or was my answer over simplification?

FRiend, I'm so busy with flags and pings and alarums I can't manage to find it, but there was a prayer chain started here last night- I think! Anyway, it's a perfectly decent idea, and I join you. Don't sweat the dissenters- white noise in the machine...

Sometimes, maybe those people of "no faith" are looking for answers. A kind word, a soft voice, just might be a seed sowed in the heart of the enquirer.

Nah, but has it ever hurt to appeal to the divine? ;)

I believe the well-publicized studies that found that OTHER people's prayer "worked" to cure illnesses have been completely discredited. Will attempt to track that down.

Whether someone who is ill praying THEMSELVES for a cure "works" is a completely different issue. The "Placebo Effect" is quite strong, and someone who strongly believes in a God capable of curing illness who prays to get better has an excellent chance of recovering, better than if they didn't pray, in the same way a person who is ill that is given a sugar pill but is told it's a powerful new cure for his disease actually has a pretty good chance of recovery.

But they are fasting....how can god not listen to them and make sure the "right" politician is "chosen"?

I, too, do not understand the prayer thing when it comes to the elections....kind of like praying for one team to win a game...I would think that god has better things to do.

They just recently came out with a study that has the medical profession taking into account the spiritual beliefs of the patients. There is medical evidence that prayer works when it comes to recovery, survival, positive attitude, etc...The doctors and nurses are saying "prayer works" even when they have not believed in God...they have been witness to miracles. Something to take into account...

who the hell are "they"? and did "they" ever think that maybe spiritual families are also more attentive/responsible when it comes to healthcare?

tell this to all the kids I watched get carted out of the oncology ward at 3am. or did their families just not pray enough?

Why do people who have no faith have this need to come in and interupt a well intentioned thread to those who have faith in a higher power? Just be curteous to those who practice a faith and move on.

I agree!!

But; it seems that the ones who don't believe have to stir up the ones who do.

It is their way of trying to justify their lack of religious belief, because we choose to blindly believe in GOD'S will for his people. We don't always have the answers, but GOD does.

do you think he/she/it is really worrying about whether or not norm coleman defeats walter mondale?

The God is concerned with ALL truth - He was concerned with Bill Clinton and He's concerned with you too (as a father loves his children) - Do me a favor - I realize we disagree - and I respect that - But please, referring to Him as "god" (lower case) is disrespectful (Im sure its unintentional)

- Kind regards, Rev911

Ease up there folks...I saw some condescending comments when this thread was started. I didnt see curtious inquiries to a path to Jesus or about Christianity in general.

If they did, then I missed it. Call me unperceptive if so...

HE hears every whisper, even when uttered by an Atheist. He answers as is pleasing to him-he is God.
