FR Goes to the Mattresses: Helpful Hints for the Coming Election Siege

In perilous times such as these, filled with Breaking News on practically an hourly basis, words of war, debate about the war, an upcoming election, and scandal after scandal foisted upon this country, it is time that we FR "regulars" share helpful hints and recipes to get us through these busy days and nights ahead, logged on to FR continuously, all the while trying to maintain a "real life" -- or, at the very least, trying to maintain the appearance of one!
Please use this thread to share your experiences -- "what worked for you," if you will -- of past elections and breaking news cycles, in order to help our newest forum members understand what is coming their way -- and the preparations they must make in order to survive and still have somewhat of a life (not to mention brain) in tact after November 5th and the days that follow.
Realizing that new blood brings fresh ideas, us "old-timers" are open to any and all suggestions from any current Freepers who may have a better idea!
This IS the thread for
"Food for Breaking News"
and
"Helpful Household Tips to Free Up Time to Freep."

Yes I remember and I hope we learned our lesson from 2000, though it would be tough to beat the euphoria around here on 12/19/98.

Hi, eddie- yep, I noticed you were over at Free Dominion... here's the link again for those who missed it:
-Free Dominion Guest Room for Freepers--
A trick I use is to hit control-n to pop up another browser, and use that to monitor Free Dominion ( or another site )- you can pop up several without slowing your machine too much.

Yes, FR got us all through the 2000 debacle and it will again. But I have learned that I can be an active participant not just a spectator on election day/night and I will NEVER be just a spectator again! I will not allow them to "do" that to me again! NEVER!It's great that we are not alone! No longer is it an "I", but it is "we" and "us"!
**IMPORTANT**-EAST COAST FREEPERS NEED TO VIGILANTLY UPDATE THREADS ON BREAKING POLL EXIT NUMBERS IN OUR ELECTIONS!!
The time we all have waited for is now upon us. Righteousness WILL prevail!

You're going to the pub tomorrow night, aren't you?

Be sure to have the phone numbers of your local tv news handy as they break into their audience "feedback" segments. Get on the air, and FReep away!
To: Freemeorkillme
Oh, a good tactic. Start feeling sick at work today then tomorrow say you feel worse. Talk alot about the people with the flu you were around at the grocery and how you can't take flu shots, some sort of allergy or something. Then on Wednesday noone will be surprised when you call in sick with the flu. Last election, I took so much sick leave people were worried. I think I feel a little achey now, just a touch of a headace. Tomorrow I shall have trouble with lights hurting my eyes and feel just terrible all over.

Oh, for goodness sake. Looks like things are REALLY slow at LP, huh? They've already got a COPY of this thread up and are mocking us all.
Talk about not having a life! I wonder if it will have as many posts as this one.
How very unoriginal they are.

I have decided that I am going to start keeping a blank tape in the VCRs at all times so that if I am watching breaking news that I believe is particularly important, I can begin to tape it immediately. Too often, the real news gets taken off and the "party line" takes over so that we forget the real facts of a breaking story.

Get to ToysRUs and buy one of those stand-up balloons with the weight in the bottom..........just in case!
Those things are cheaper than anything in your house that you might want to kick, punch or throw.

Well, there is the old standby: the kid's dart gun. It's GREAT for shooting at the TV screen; just be sure to go ahead and buy the refill pack of darts; it will save time walking back and forth to the TV to "reload." :-)

Same here...the women at the polls not only know everyone by sight, they know how you'll likely vote . I love living in the boonies. I swear, they can tell ya the final count before the polls open to within a dozen votes. And I'm not talking about fraud, I'm talking about community.

That's for the republican voters. The dems are quite confortable in the other vehicles.

from your lips to John's ears.

Advice from on Older Woman:
Move vaccum sweeper to center of room where you will be Freeping.
remove arm covers from furniture in the room where you are freeping.
distribute cleaning supplies about the Freeping room
Stock up on Toilet Paper (some things are difficult to do without)
Prepare following Recipe for Crockpot:
Large pkg of egg noodles, prepared.
2 cans Campbells Beefy Mushroom Soup (no water)
drain prepared noodles and turn into crockpot, combine with Beefy Mushroom soup. (This is "Down Home Comfort Food" and your family will forgive your misgivings when you serve this)
As you freep, when you hear family approaching your freeping room, jump from chair,, busy yourself with replacing arm covers on furniture,,, mutter "Tsk, Tsk" several times. Family member, thinking they are responsible for the wayward arm covers will depart quickly. If necessary, start sweeper and aim sweeper in direction of the family member.
Move cleaning supplies to a different location in the room before returning to computer. Repeat as necessary.
If family continues to interupt you. Go retrieve family members dirty laundry from hamper. Casually place a piece from each family member in the Freeping room. When they enter the room, grab their duds shake them under their nose and say with discust: "How did this get here?". Little by little, they will sneak away to hide from you, grateful that you are busy cleaning the Freep Room.

LOL! My husband is a democrat and thinks we're all crazy here on FR. I keep telling him he should check in, that we're not all stuffy Republicans. That's just the Dem party line. In fact, I'm sure he would LOVE your thoughts! LOL!
