FR Goes to the Mattresses: Helpful Hints for the Coming Election Siege

In perilous times such as these, filled with Breaking News on practically an hourly basis, words of war, debate about the war, an upcoming election, and scandal after scandal foisted upon this country, it is time that we FR "regulars" share helpful hints and recipes to get us through these busy days and nights ahead, logged on to FR continuously, all the while trying to maintain a "real life" -- or, at the very least, trying to maintain the appearance of one!
Please use this thread to share your experiences -- "what worked for you," if you will -- of past elections and breaking news cycles, in order to help our newest forum members understand what is coming their way -- and the preparations they must make in order to survive and still have somewhat of a life (not to mention brain) in tact after November 5th and the days that follow.
Realizing that new blood brings fresh ideas, us "old-timers" are open to any and all suggestions from any current Freepers who may have a better idea!
This IS the thread for
"Food for Breaking News"
and
"Helpful Household Tips to Free Up Time to Freep."

Two things I would like to request, if anyone has them at hand:
1) A handy "checklist" of the races for tomorrow, so we can mark them off as they are "called" on Tuesday night.
and
2) A list of the candidates that Bill Clinton, et al., have endorsed and/or campaigned for so we can MARK THEM OFF as they are defeated!!!

It helps to keep in mind that "having a life" is just a crutch for those with insufficient bandwidth.

I just hate it when my everyday life interferes with my time on FR....one thing that I have learned is that the crock pot is my friend.
To: Howlin
This thread is going to be a classic. I hope some enterprising freepers will also include suggestions on "how to look like you're working when breaking news hits the fan".

Coffee, two tv's, one tuned to fox, the other 'surfing', coffee, an understanding husband, coffee, freeper up and running constantly, coffee, a list of the races taped along side the computer, coffee, state ping lists, popcorn and I'm ready to roll!!!! Looking forward to a great day/night tomorrow. VOTE and send a note to your entire address book and have them do the same. VOTE...God bless...

Great thread - thanks for the ping. Can't wait to read thread when I return later today. In the interim: Defrost meat tonight, throw in crockpot tomorrow. Husband is poll managing tomorrow so I can freep all day.

You got that right! Although my cable modem has been taxed by FR lately.

Be patient.
Close counts, voter fraud, last minute candidate replacements, just wait... it's gonna be a rollercoaster! The precedents set by E-2000 for counting every vote until it looks "right" will be in full effect in the close races. Voter fraud will bring lawsuits trying to find loopholes where the dead actually CAN vote. "Disenfranchised" voters who were too damn dumb to realize that their candidate wasn't on the ticket anymore (quit because he was loosing) or they failed to realize that the soul of their beloved candidate had left this world (God rest his soul)will no doubt sue to change their votes.
It's going to be a week, maybe more, before we know what the final tally is. I hope I'm wrong... but my advice is to be patient.

We need those lists! I'm hoping somebody will come along and helpfully post them right here on this thread so we can print them off!
Today IS the day to make preparations. After tonight, it's just too dang late...

Helpful household hints:
1. Pour bleach in the toilets and let it sit all day...the chlorine odor smells like you have been cleaning!
2. Schedule small chores when the system slows down. For example, when FR slows to a crawl I hit refresh and then dust all the end tables in the living room and family room.
3. Crock-pot meals, made early in the morning before the Rat lawyers start filing their injunctions, are impressive and will hold indefinitely. I prefer vegetable soup or chili, but others may have more glamorous recipes.
4. It is always better to get dressed BEFORE the rest of the family arrives home.

I got rid of my fiance. It freed up huge blocks of time for freeping. ;D
I also took the precaution of telling friends and family NOT to call me tomorrow, because they will surely get a busy signal.
I will be voting in the morning and working as a poll-closer in the evening---and will be right here at all other times tomorrow.
To: Howlin
Couldn't agree more. I have never seen the Freepers fail though. By the end of the day we will have a great list suitable for framing...er, taping to the computer! I just love the information that is available on this thread and is such a salute to what we can accomplish when we work together. Thanks for starting this...
To: Howlin
There is a staff meeting that i have been commanded to attend on Weds, which really irked me to hear, since i know i will be DEAD from staying up on Tues PM! i feel like i need to take the week off, i am off today to just gear up for it!

We desperately need a 'chatroom' like that used on Election Night 2000. That was a night I will NEVER forget, not just for the news events, but also for the online commiseration that helped me keep my sanity.
We need a chatroom in which the dialogue can be ARCHIVED (wow would I love to have the transcript of 2000).
Also, FreeRepublic could crash.
To: BlessedAmerican
Well, some of who were here in 2000 want to help you "new guys"!! It was a LONG haul here........I hope you've got your Christmas shopping done!
