Sunday Rally Update. To Arms! Sawgrass Rebellion Rally - Beckley, West Virginia
Sauropod | October 2, 2002 | Sauropod and Countrydummy

Posted on 10/02/2002 5:34:50 AM PDT by sauropod

To All FReepers,

Greetings,

We are putting on an event (land rights rally) in support of the Sawgrass Rebellion in Beckley, West Virginia on October 6th (next Sunday). This event will be visited by the Darby Convoy that will leave from Ohio on/about October 1st.

If you would like more information on what the Sawgrass Rebellion is about, go to www.sawgrassrebellion.org.

We need you all to come to the rally (see below). If you can, please donate shovels or buckets to be auctioned off at the main event in Florida. If you can't make it, you can still participate by donating to cover the cost of holding it.

The Beckley rally will be held in the Raleigh County Armory in Beckley. The facility includes under cover seating for many people, a stage, sound system, restroom facilities, and plenty of parking.

We have decided to go with the convention center at the Armory complex - the cost is only $600 to rent it.

The Paragon Foundation, Inc. has graciously agreed to give us a grant for $1,000. Because of the rescaling of the event, we have enough expected funds to rent the hall. We are now in the process of trying to get funds for newspaper ads for the local Beckley newspapers. We will use the $400 left over from the Paragon Foundation grant to start this, but the media buy costs a minimum of about $730.

Sheila (countrydummy) is trying to work this out this morning. The newspaper (Charlotte News-Observer? having a senior moment here, Sheila) has given us until 11:00 am TODAY to come up w/ the $$.

If we are not able to do this, then it wasn't meant to be.

I can tell you that I have received pledges from FReepers totaling $170 to date (THANK YOU!!!).

We still need to generate funds to cover any shortfalls and buy poster materials, etc. to help advertise the event.

We are asking from each of you to donate whatever you can afford to help defray the costs. If y'all can donate $10 or $20 to help out, we would be gratefully appreciative. The Paragon Foundation, Inc. is also graciously offering to accept donations for the Beckley rally in the name of the Sawgrass Rebellion. Paragon is a 501 (c) (3) foundation which means that your donation is 100% tax deductible!!!

If you do not feel comfortable donating to this effort, please consider donating to FreeRepublic in the name of the Land Rights Caucus and the Sawgrass Rebellion.

One further note: ANY funds left over after this event will be put toward the Florida FReeper support of the Sawgrass Rebellion (FReepers AAABEST and seeking the truth are heading this effort).

HOW TO DONATE: You can go to www.paragonpowerhouse.org and click on the "Donation Form" link on the left side of the page. A donation form will appear and you can mail that in with your donation. Please make your checks payable to the "Sawgrass Rebellion Relief Fund." Be sure to earmark it for the "Beckley, W.Va Rally". Also, there are phone numbers for Paragon that appear directly below the form. These phone numbers are (toll free) 1-877-847-3443, and (505) 434-8998.

We could not find a credit card link on their page, so it will most probably have to be a mail in.

Please send Sauropod a FReepmail with your donation amount also so that we can plan on utilizing the money for the event. Any amount that is over what we need to use for the Beckley, W.Va event will be rolled over into the Florida FReeper Sawgrass Event.

We are working on speakers now! The event shall begin at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 6th and finish when all the speakers have spoken. We also plan a small auction to help out with raising funds in support of this event.

We will probably have to charge a small admission at the door. It will most probably be $5.00 or so.

Thanks very much again from the bottom of our hearts for helping out!

FReepers Sauropod and Countrydummy

I wish I could come. I used to live North of Charleston, and my favorite drive was down through Beckley and the mountains. What a great place!
