This is our own corner of Free Republic where homeschoolers can discuss what curriculum we use, vent when needed, share our successes, compare notes, alert each other to things we find on the internet, and vent some more.

Gee, you're up early... and so am I. Hmmm... on second thought, it's not that early, it's almost 8:00 a.m. where I live. I guess everyone else in my house is just sleeping late (and I hope they sleep just a little longer...).

Good morning. Looks like a little labor this labor day is in order. Going to have a good old fashioned bar-b-que this afternoon. Yes, I know how to do it. We were at Ft Hood for almost 6 years so have a little bit of Texas in our blood. Nothing better than some mesquite and lots of home made sauce. The recipe from that is from Mrs SLB's family who settled in Kenedy, TX and then moved to Mississippi in about 1916. The recipe has probably been changed but is still a little bit of Texas here in the Bluegrass.

Home-school battle heats up in California

The folks in California need our support. Freedom of thought, speech and, religion are at stake.

Thanks, Khepera.

While I'm confident we (homeschoolers) have the best representation, I'm completely distrustful of the horrid little people pushing for control in this situation.

My sister works for the Super of Schools in San Bernardino County and has believed all the tripe told to her...until she talked to me about it. Now I'm sending her all kinds of articles disproving the NEA's position and most particularly Delaine Eastin (sp?).

I lead a homeschool support group of 24 families and have received many calls from frightened parents.

While we want to stay on and fight this battle, my husband and I have seriously considered leaving the state if negative education law is put in place. Prayer is appreciated.

Come up to Washington State, we have some of the most lax homeschooling laws in the country, just DO NOT get involved in any of the "public school" homeschooling programs.

When you get into the AED, Advanced education Dept. your child is put on a special "high risk" list. Yes, for $500 a year, you too can have big brother government looking over your shoulder. THey give you the $500 and they get the rest, because the child then counts toward them.

I won't do it, and Niether should you, but other then that, the homeschooling laws are excellent here, Idaho of course gets first prize, and if thing get at all edgy in Washington, that is where we are going to go.

Good luck, I am most definitely thinking about you!!

I would like to be added to the ping list.

I homeschool in CA, but I'm in Orange County.
Haven't heard a peep out of the school district here.

Have a great time in Austin TxBec! And thanks Aric for your post regarding WA homeschooling. BTW, are you here or in Oregon? If you're in WA, please join our Puget Sound FReeper Chapter. We get together for all kinds of events - social and political FReeps. You can FReepmail me for details.
