Neil Bush says son Pierce was misdiagnosed seven years ago with attention-deficit disorder, forcing the family to resist efforts to medicate Pierce with Ritalin.
August 14, 2002 -- ANGRY New York parents who say school officials pressured them into medicating their children have a very powerful ally in their corner - President Bush's brother.

No matter the circumstance, a parent receiving any kind of diagnosis from a medical professional regarding their child is obligated to investigate the disease and treatment, educate themselves and advocate for their childrens' best interests.

It angers me that they call it a crisis.
It's a G.D. crime spree! Heads should role and people should go to prison. These are Class II narcotics for heaven's sake. We're talking about young children being forced to take narcotics. These school officials are criminals.

ping. Oh, what I could say about this!! Too early, no coffee. I'm afraid it would come out like jibberish.

These Legalized Drug Pushers have a problem on their hands now-- the Bush family. You better watch out. You better not lie. You better not pout I'm telling you why....

I reacted very negatively a few years ago to a suggestion from a school special ed teacher that perhaps drugs could help my son; no one ever brought up the idea again.
I think it is horrific: a child does not exhibit the "correct" behavior (exactly what is "normal" anyway?) and the schools think they must be drugged into submission. I am so glad the schools weren't into drugging kids when I was young; they almost certainly would have had me on something!

This has been going on since the early 1980's and back then it was called hyperactivity. I had a teacher scold me because she had no clue why i was so rowdy, she sat me down in the hall and sunk her fingernails into my arms as she gritted her teeth and shook me a bit.

I know they have. Today it appears the useage is rampant.
Who are the trouble making kids? In my estimation some of the brightest kids are. They are board. They act out, but their little minds are sharp as a tack.
My premise is that these bright kids are being drugged. I think it retards their crativity and long term leadership skills. "Drug the little fart and forget about it."
How would perform at work on narcotics? If just fine then let's all load up on Ritalin and go on a road trip. The fact is adults given this medication, if there in fact are any, would be told not to drive or operate machinery. Your employer wouldn't care for your job performance on it, but giving it to kids is a top rate idea.
I'm not directing my anger at you, I'm just pi--ed that this goes on. Yep, it's been going on since the 80s. But if somebody on the street sells the same kids a joint, they get thrown in jail for decades.

These school officials are criminals. This whole thing really started in the '70s with behavior modification. That was the idea that the prime mission of the schools was to teach students how to behave properly. Educators got to decide what that behavior should be.
School officials and teachers are not medical professionals, and they consistantly overdiagnose "learning disabilities" when the reality is that the classroom is just too boring or the teacher is too unwilling to use varying teaching methods.
Then, you have administrators who are unwilling to establish consistant and firm but fair discipline. And you have "curriculum specialists" who often search for new, gimmicky programs rather that assuring that teachers are sticking to and completing the curriculum as it should be.
There once was a time in teaching when if students got itchy the teacher first looked to one's own teaching methods for answers!

"My heart goes out to any parents who are being led to believe their kids have a disorder or are disabled." Hm...I was diagnosed incorrectly with ADD when I was 13. I was then diagnosed bipolar, when in actuality, the manic episodes were a result of addiction to my ADD medication, Adderall. I am still diagnosed bipolar, but have stopped medication for about 2 months and have had no episodes since being through treatment for the adderall addiction last fall.

I suggest you read the article and comment on that, for your comment is out of left field and not related to what was said.

When I was diagnosed ADD, I was simply bored out of my mind. That is, class was so dull to me that during Biology for example, I'd finish the chapter in class, then print out pages and pages of more detailed information on what we were studying and read that during class ignoring the teacher.
The Adderall just made me feel as if I needed more stimulation (it had a definite speed effect on me) and instead of paying attention in class, I read books relating to our lessons that I got on my own to keep me from going mad, while furiously scribbling pages of notes. Addiction to these drugs are wide-spread and too many people are being quickly diagnosed and doped up.

"The problem is, it isn't the kids that are broken. It's the system that is failing to engage children in the classroom" This is 100% on target as I can attest from my own personal experience. Ritalin is being used on a massive scale as a mind-control drug to make submissive the students who are too intelligent to be confined within the one-size-fits-all nature of public education.
I thank God that this stuff wasn't out when I went to school, I have no doubt they would have tried to force feed it to me.
It's well past time we started incarcerating these charlatans who abuse millions of intelligent children under the pretense of ADD treatment. A copy of Tom Sawyer would do more good for these children than years of being drugged zombies.
To: lavaroise
That is because wine is not a class-2 NARCOTIC which has to be prescribed by a doctor.
Any "edcucrat" that dosed my child with Ritalin would be in very serious and prospectively fatal physical danger.

To: JediGirl
And that is the very real problem isn't it. When all is said and done, these kids are being adicted to narcotics. Class II narcotics are classified that way because of their addictive profiles. Thanks for your comments relating to your experience.

Thanks. I agree with your comments.

I know a kid who has been raised as a conservative. She is a very smart independent thinker but quiet and well behaved. She is sent to school everyday and being taught by liberals. It drives her crazy because she knows most of what they tell her is bs. If the liberals can't get you in their group think/herd mentality it drives them nuts so, of course they think there must be something wrong with her. The teachers watch her during lunch and if she doesn't eat very much, they go right to the home and tell the mother there must be something wrong. She eats fine at home and is just nervous with everyone watching her eat. I feel very bad for her because if I were going to school today I don't know if I could take it. It's the conservative vs liberal thing at a young age.

If Neil's out and about it must not be an election year. He should be disappearing soon so as to avoid any questions that could cause unease to his 2 brothers.
