One More Reason… the Republicans will regain the majority in the Senate.

“One More Reason… the Republicans will regain the majority in the Senate."

Wednesday, August 7:
...Because Erskine Bowles (aka Poster Boy for Corporate Irresponsibility) can't seem to keep the oh-so-unflattering details of that pesky $4.2 mil job at Forstmann Little off his resume and out of the papers. (That's $4.2 mil a year...)

You may recall, the State of Connecticut lost over ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS of its pension funds -- dollars that were unwisely (to be charitably delicate) invested by Forstmann Little during Poster Boy's tenure. The real losers? Connecticut retirees who had worked hard and played by the rules...

(Reckon some of them might move south JUST to thank Erskine in their own special way?)

The State of Connecticut has filed suit. But for some reason (a mystery!) Poster Boy is not named in the suit -- although all of the highly questionable investment decisions were made during his tenure.

Now, inquisitive minds want to know why...

Were political deals involved?

Bowles' spokesman ain't sayin'.

Tuesday, August 6:
Because according an American Viewpoint poll, Cornyn leads Kirk 46% to 35% among all voters and 50 to 35% among high propensity voters.

I have so many bets going on at this point. What kind of odds are you giving me? BTW, how old is Liddy? How much damage can she do?

And the fact that Kirk is spending alot of time out of the State trying to raise money in liberal hell holes won't help him either. And as unpopular as trail lawyers are in Texas right now , wait till he has to explain where the majority of his cash is coming from. Now if Perry would do the same to Sanchez he would get somewhere. Maybe he is saving that for latter on.

Well if the GOP gets control of the senate, the GOP needs to listen loud and clear to the following two words: DUMP LOTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you there and as long as the inner cities vote in 85%+ numbers!

Cannot believe that more has not been done. I am still at a loss to understand why requiring an identification to vote is wrong! Fraud can be the only answer!

Am not sure how old she is! One thing I am sure is that she will vote with Republicans for the most part if not almost all the time. I hope you have deep pockets!

I don't have deep pockets, but I will after I win this bet. How about 5:1 odds?

My 2 cents. It will all come down to TURNOUT, TURNOUT, TIURNOUT. These polls mean absolutely nothing. Polls had the Dingell-Rivers primary race a statistical deadlock and Dingell won by 19 points. In my liberal hometown of Gainesville FL, republicans stood in line at the polls to put 2 republicans on the city commission stunning every soicialist in town. I thought the shocked liberal reporters were going to cry on the air. My point again- All that matters is turnout. Period. I believe there are enough angry republicans that will turn out for GOP to give us the senate. Especially in Missouri and South Dakota.

And Kirk left Dallas in a financial mess. Layoffs, loss of services and tax hikes are in the future.
I hope they hike the taxes just before the election. Heck, I hope the quesion of a tax hike is right there on the ballot.

I don't know about FR, I could use $50 myself. I raise the bet to $100.

You're on at $100, but my premise stands, the loser donates to FReeRepublic and makes it public by virtue of posting a vanity about losing.

I noticed you're now trying to get 5:1 odds with PhiKapMom. Not with me you won't. Losing confidence?

Mud, I donate every month to FR, and the only reason I'm not an enthusiastic GOP supporter is that they're too far to the left for me.

Nevertheless, no one will be happier than I if they regain the Senate.

I don't think it's going to happen, though, so I will cover Satadru and I'll donate $50 to FR if they do.

That would be good. Put it all up front.

This former Clinton aide is running in North Carolina against Elizabeth Dole. He has left Connecticut under a cloud.

Sen Lott is personally OK but has been an ineffective Majority Leader, I think we do need someone who lives somewhere near Tulsa.

She has to be 70. Surely she will be a one-termer, and Edwards looks like he could be the same. Maybe he will have to run for president, for he knows N.C. will never re-elect him to the Senate.

Am I the only one who has done the math? As an actuary, let me tell you that there is between a 91% and 93% chance that Republicans WILL regain the Senate in 2002 elections, assuming no one switches parties and Cheney remains VP.

It only takes a switch of ONE!

Sheesh, a no brainer.

Regarding the House, I have a major article coming out in the Sept.-Oct. issue of Contingencies, which is the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries. It covers turnover in the House from the second election in 1790 through 2002, with solid predictions for 2004.

Here's the click link for that article which will be published on the Net in about four weeks.

Bottom line: There are not enough "contested races," meaning contests likely to be decided by less than 5%, for the Democrats to take the House. There are only 20 such races. The Dems would have to win 70% of those to take the House. They cannot accomplish that.

For the resaons stated in that article, I stand by my prediction made a year before this general election that the Republicans will gain 5-7 seats in the House.

In the Senate, the Dems look to lose SD (Johnson), Minn. (Wellstone), and possibly Mo. (Carnahan). As much as I dispise Bob ("the Un-Bribed") Torricelli in New Jersey, as a prediction I think that slimeball will grease his way to reelection. So I also stand by my prediction last November that the Repubs will gain 1-3 seats in the Senate.

Regarding the Dump Lott! movement, Nichols would be a terrific replacement. In my column last week I referred to Lott as "having the cajones of a gelded flea." I was chary in my choice of words. I didn't want to get too harsh.
