Watch and pray. The rescuers are optimistic that they will reach the cavity where the miners are located by midnight, perhaps as soon as 10pm et.
They just reported that several PA miners were caught in a similar situation thirty years ago AND WERE RESCUED ALIVE AFTER A WEEK IN THE HOLE.

I see it's back as breaking news. Good! I intended to stick around for a while anyway.
This is just the best news! I got chills when the first "9 for 9" posts started coming!

Yep, most of Pennsylvania is that way, outside of the big cities. Good people, good Americans.

I might have used the wrong word....'arbitron'.
What I meant was that Roger Ailes could get an instant reading from those here....most watch Fox News ( if they can get it) exclusively. So for us to turn off Fox News, Roger should know that.

Thank you, Petronski, for posting this thread. You've done a great job!

You did well tonight -- your reporting of the local news TV/Radio reporters beat every one else to the punch. And with good news, too!! And I agree, story's not over yet -- should have been left up there.

Excellent idea.
I hate to rain on the 'hate Geraldo' parade, but I've watched both CNN and FOX coverage and one thing seems to be missing in the media reviews here.
The people on the scene there are much more at ease and give the favorable interviews to FOX, and yes, that includes Geraldo. There was a big difference in the Governor's reaction to Geraldo than to the other network people.
I can't imagine what else you could want Geraldo to say. He said he would rather be in a war zone than trapped in a mine. He talked about how brave they were. He praised the workers. He talked about the ministers and the prayer vigil.
He specifically made a point of talking about the Governor giving up his hotel room to allow the miners to get some sleep. He made a point that the Governor wasn't doing this for votes because he's not running.
I also note that Leventhal - a real down to earth reporter - likes Geraldo. They're getting along well and Geraldo is generous in sharing the spotlight.
When you're on the scene like this, having dinner means having it in that diner where they've been all day - talking to people and getting info.
Imagine the criticism of GWB in Crawford. The press will gripe that he's 'on vacation' when we know he's working. There's no difference in Geraldo having dinner.
While I am second to no one in my criticism of Geraldo's politics about Clinton, I think much of the criticism of him tonight is misplaced.

I'm gonna call it a night soon as well. There are three little kittens on my back porch, and I'm going to see if they will chase a laser pointer or not. Call it scientific research ;)
Oyasumi nasai, y'all.

Thanks to Management for restoring this thread to the spot where late-comers can find it most easily.
I wonder how the families reacted, in their private moments, to a finish like this.
I'd do a bunch of tears-of-joy rejoicing, and shortly after my loved one emerged, I'd probably fall deep asleep in emotional exhaustion.

OMGoodness, even CNN is making fun of Geraldo LOL! I knew CNN's ratings were terrible, but it must be pretty bad if CNN's people can't even watch CNN, and must watch Fox!

I hope Ailes is reading this because I, for one, refuse to watch that grandstanding Geraldo when I can turn on CNN and get an enthusiastic reporter that is just happy and not grandstanding!

"there are at least two or three hours to go until it's known whether it's gonna actually end happily ..."
I was wondering...isn't it a two hour round trip? And they have to do it nine times...after the provisions...that's roughly 20 hrs. right there. Then don't they have to decompress? Or are the bends no longer a problem?
It sounds more like 48 total. The governor did say to be patient.

hope i wasn't displaying a parochial over-reaction.
god forbid we'd take valuable sidebar space from the 147,00th FRive Las Vegas announcement ...

"He should invite them to the White House."
No - the White House should go to them. Sometimes that is necessary, and this is one of those times. A visit from him would pick the spirits up of EVERYONE there - the miners who were rescued, their families, the rescuers, all of the emergency service people: Salvation Army / RedCross / FireFighters / EMTS / EMS/Docs & Nurses that will attend to the injured - hell, even the people that work at the gas station. It would be impossible to get them all to the White House - though I hope the miners and their families, along with their rescuers and their families are invited in the future.
Just about everybody involved in this rescue this week, was also on scene at the Flight 93 crash. I don't think Bush has been to Somerset to see the site, Laura and Cheney, et al, have been - but not the Prez. This would be a great time to go there.

Thanks for the thread... When I heard the news that all had survived I broke down and cried myself...
