Where are the gold bugs NOW?
Gold Prices Online ^ | 06/27/2002 | Lazamataz

Well, 'the new spoosman' and many like him have told me for months that the 'fiat' currency is worthless, and gold is the only valuable currency out there. Disregarding for a second the fact that these gold bugs are so ready to part with their gold for those 'worthless fiat notes', I would like to point out that since the height of their caterwalling, Jun 01 2002, gold is down from 326$ an ounce to 314$ an ounce today. That is a 4 percent drop in less than a month.

The 'fiat currency' people are out to lunch. I don't expect gold to do any better than index with inflation in the long run, and today managed to show a savage loss of $5 an ounce.

Your gold doesn't pay dividends.

I pay myself dividends from my currency trading. Gold fulfills one purpose for me, security.

If the fecal matter hits the fan. You'll be standing there with gold eagles while the guys with canned goods, ammo, and tradable items like booze and smokes thrive.

I'll have it all, it's all cheap right now.

You'll starve, but you'll have a bag full of really pretty yellow metal while you do.

LOL You getting hateful.

Around two years ago I considered moving all of my investments in stocks to gold. Now two years later my investment in stocks is down by several hundred thousand dollars. I'm not crying about it but I certainly would be better off today if I had gone to gold.

No, I would not put my money in gold today. Right now I am still hoping for a big stock market recovery. That may take several years.

Well, yeah, but suppose you had put that $20 in an FDIC insured savings account? Or bought $20 worth of GM stock?

No she did say that. It would have been a big deal in the 1400's for a woman to wear what was considered a man's clothing. It was part of her prophesy of the feminist movement that has led to the liberalization and femination of the world. It has been a big deal. We don't notice because we're too close to the trees to see the forest.

Here's her prophesies she made of the twentieth century, preceding the time of the Dragon's Tail:

A carriage without horse shall go;
Disasters fill the world with woe.
In London, Primrose Hill shall be,
Its centre hold a Bishop's See.
Around the world men's thoughts shall fly
Quick as the twinkling of an eye
And waters shall great wonders do,
How strange, and yet it shall come true.

Then upside down the world shall be,
And gold found at the root of tree;
Through towering hill proud men shall ride,
No horse nor ass move at his side.
Beneath the waters men shall walk;
Shall ride, shall sleep and even talk.
And in the air men shall be seen,
In white and black and even green.
A great man then shall come and go,
For prophecy declares it so.

In water iron then shall float
As easy as a wooden boat,
Gold shall be found in stream or stone,
In land that is as yet unknown.
Water and fire shall wonders do,
And England shall admit a Jew.

The Jew that once was held in scorn,
Shall of a Christian then be born. [borne?]
A house of glass shall come to pass
In ENGLAND - but alas!
A war will follow with the work,
Where dwells the pagan and the Turk.
The states will lock in fiercest strife
And seek to take each other's life.
When North shall thus divide South
The eagle build in lion's mouth.
Then tax and blood and cruel war
Shall come to every humble door.

Three times shall lovely sunny France
Be lead to play a lovely dance,
Before the people shall be free.
The tyrant rulers shall she see.
Three rulers in succession be,
Each sprang from different dynasty.

Then, when fiercest fight is done
England and France shall be as one.
The British olive next shall twine
In marriage with the German vine.
Men walk beneath and over streams
Fulfilled shall be our strangest dreams.

All England's sons that plough the land -
Shall oft be seen with Book in hand.
The poor shall then True Wisdom know
And waters, wind, where corn did grow.
Great houses stand in farflung vale,
All covered o'er with snow and hail.

And now a word in uncouth rhyme
Of what shall be in future time,
For in the wondrous far off days,
The women shall adopt a craze
To dress like men and trousers wear
And cut off their lovely locks of hair.

They'll ride astride with brazen brow
As witches on a broomstick now
Then love shall die and marriage cease,
And nations wane as babies decrease. =
The wives shall fondle cats and dogs
And men live much the same as hogs.

In nineteen-hundred twentysix
Build houses light of straw and sticks,

And roaring monsters with man atop
Do seem to eat the verdant crop.
And men shall fly as birds do now,
And give away the horse and plough.
When pictures live with movements free,
When boats like fishes swim the sea,
When men like birds shall scour the sky
Then half the world, blood drenched shall die.

For then shall mighty war be planned
and fire and sword sweep the land.
But those who live the century through
In fear and trembling this will do;
Flee to the mountains and the dens
To bog and forest and wild fens
For storms shall rage and oceans roar,
when Gabriel stands on sea and shore
And when he blows his horn
Old worlds shall die and new be born.

And when the dragon's tail is gone, Man forgets, and smiles, and carries on,

Interesting note:

Back in Enrico Fermi's day, the process of preparing radioactive isotopes for use in building the first nuclear fission reactors...was called "tickling the dragon's tail."

Interesting. If her prophesies are right, it sounds like a huge solar system intruder because she speaks of tides rising over the lowlands. Only a large extraterrestrial body can raise tides. Were the Sumerians correct? They knew about Pluto in 4000 B.C. They also spoke of this intruder. Could this be what caused Noah's Flood? They said it passes about every 3600 years. The Ten Plagues of Egypt occured in 1560 B.C.

hmmmmmm... :^)

Gold isn't rare. Everyone owns some. Any fool who offered to trade something of value for gold in that sort of crisis would be FLOODED with have-nots bringing in their gold jewelry to trade for food or whatever because people can't eat gold so they are certainly willing to dump it off on whomever would take it in trade.

Southack, you made a great point, but 180* from the one you intended.

Times of calamity and strife are often when great fortunes are made. The fellow who has the food, ammo, medicine etc will be piling up LOTS of Krugerands in exchange. After the disaster passes, he will be sitting on a mountain of gold and jewelry taken in trade, which will eventually be convertible again, to be turned into houses, real estate etc.

IOW, a garage full of Spam and ammuntion could turn into a safe full of gold, which finally turns into grand estates after the crisis passes.

I don't deny your point, except that I'd rather keep my supplies in a crisis than trade them for "potential riches" in the future.

You know as well as I do that when you are in a firefight, you concentrate on surviving, not getting rich.

If all hell breaks loose and the economy collapses, do you think I'll want to give up wine, whiskey, cigarettes, potable drinking water or rent out my wife for gold that I can't use?

As silly as #3fan can get, he does have this point: Gold is recognized for 5000 years or more as 'money', and paper -- bonds, stocks, federal reserve notes -- are a phenomenon of about 100 to 200 years of age.

Gold is and will always be 'money'. Um, unless replicators can fabricate it in the future.

Just another reason to fill your garage with Spam today while it's worth less than one Krugerand a can.

He hates gold too much to open his mind to make money on it if given the chance.

Silly? A serious, sober guy like yourself calling me silly? I'm deeply hurt. :^)

The reason why I like these gold threads is because they degenerate into wild Mad Max scenerios and once they get to that point, you might as well bring up everything that deals with strange, theoretical phenomenom. What the hell, these threads get past the point of no return right after they get posted. LOL
