Where are the gold bugs NOW?
Gold Prices Online ^ | 06/27/2002 | Lazamataz

Well, 'the new spoosman' and many like him have told me for months that the 'fiat' currency is worthless, and gold is the only valuable currency out there. Disregarding for a second the fact that these gold bugs are so ready to part with their gold for those 'worthless fiat notes', I would like to point out that since the height of their caterwalling, Jun 01 2002, gold is down from 326$ an ounce to 314$ an ounce today. That is a 4 percent drop in less than a month.

The 'fiat currency' people are out to lunch. I don't expect gold to do any better than index with inflation in the long run, and today managed to show a savage loss of $5 an ounce.

If currency becomes worthless as a medium of exchange, gold becomes equally worthless - because it is merely a symbolic representation of wealth, no more useful to the receiver than paper currency.

Exactly. Gold was once a fairly reliable means of exchange because most people were familiar with that use and had faith in it. Now it's just the faith of a handful of true believers.

"Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'

Babylon means "confusion". The bad fig. The scribes of the earth. The media. The Church elders of many churches. It's ran by the Kenites (the Judah Jews are the good fig, those who lie and call themselves Jews (but are not originally) are the bad fig...I think that's why the "Jewish" population is so two-faced in American politics, one face is so liberal and won't support the Republicans who support Israel the most, and the other face is outraged by the terrorism against Israel and is relatively conservative...the "Jewish" population consists of two ethnicities).

"And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all... For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.'... and (they) cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, "What is like this great city?' "They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, "Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.' "Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!" ............Revelation 18 In the end, all this will count for nothing anyhow. But then, we are talking about the interim here, are we not?

Well, if you look at the battle of Hamongog (which I believe takes place in Alaska and Canada), you'll see that there is a long time between that battle and the second advent, because there is time to bury the bodies in the valley of passengers, and use the enemy's gasoline, etc., and people will marvel as they travel through the valley where the enemy soldiers will be buried. So the end could begin at any time now and there could still be years before the one-world religious system, antiChrist, and therefore the second advent. Really the end began in 1948 when the good and bad fig were set in Palestine by the two oaks (America and Britain), but as bible prophesy says, there will be a quickening, individual prophesies will come to pass faster and faster.

I live in rural Alabama. I grow my own food and have a decent amount of essentials stored, including gasoline. If people are starving, there is just no way that I'd trade what I have for your ugly yellow metal.

What a nice guy. I'll stay up here where people are willing to do business with intelligence and help one another, and won't let silly hangups get in the way of doing what's right, and what will be profitable and get the economy going again.

Moreover, what you clearly haven't grasped is that there is an enormous amount of gold that is out of circulation in jewelry and industrial products. Any crisis that destroys the Dollar would find all of that gold back on the market in an attempt to trade it for things that are life-supporting (e.g. food, water, shelter, guns).

If all the gold mined in the history of the world were in one cube, it would be 70 feet by 70 feet by 70 feet. That's not much distributed over 6 billion people. There's no risk of oversupply in a crisis.

Gold isn't rare. Everyone owns some. Any fool who offered to trade something of value for gold in that sort of crisis would be FLOODED with have-nots bringing in their gold jewelry to trade for food or whatever because people can't eat gold so they are certainly willing to dump it off on whomever would take it in trade.

There will be many that will take in in a trade, as always happens when governments fall.

The Huns, and then various despots would have taken it.

Americans who have never used Krugerrands or gold bars for trade and who have no means to authenticate or test them will suddenly want to trade lifes necessities away? You're dreaming.

When it's the only money left, people will learn the difference between real and fake.

You would be better off with a bag of Eisenhower dollars or cartons of cigarettes.

Gold Liberties will do.

Nope.

Yep.

After a while, even the pawn shops wouldn't want any more.

Pawn Shops won't be in business for a few months. Barter and gold, that's it.

You're getting weirder and weirder.

Thank you. That's what they told Jeremiah.

If all hell breaks loose and the economy collapses, do you think I'll want to give up wine, whiskey, cigarettes, potable drinking water or rent out my wife for gold that I can't use? Dream on....

Then don't. There will be plenty of people that will want money.

That's never happened before when a government has failed, we'll see if history has a first.

And we'll exchange it with one another for goods, while you lug your life's possessions around.

People with no money won't think it's worthless.

Check out this thread from September where generalre and I bet between the S&P 500 and gold, posts 157 through 168. I'd say I'm pretty far ahead in that bet. LOL

It would almost be fun to see the dumbfounded look on your face if that ever came to pass.

If what comes to pass?
