Spanier Administration Evangelizes
For Deviant Sex At Penn State

By Rev. Louis P. Sheldon
Chairman, Traditional Values Coalition

Washington, DC – The Penn State administration of President Graham Spanier is continuing a crusade in support of sexually deviant behavior.

The Spanier administration’s most recent outrage has been its tepid response to the appearance of Patrick Califa Rice at a radical feminist health fair on campus this past March. Rice is a female-to-male transgender who has written approvingly of adult/child sex and has been a vocal supporter of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA). Rice was invited to the campus by Womyn’s Concerns to discuss her sex change operation. While administrative spokesman Bill Mahon expressed regret that Rice had been invited to PSU by the campus group, Spanier’s administration did nothing to prevent Rice’s presentation despite prior knowledge of Rice’s views. The administration sought to defuse public criticism by requiring attendees at Rice’s presentation to show campus identification and proof of minimum age (18).

Rice is author of “Doing it for Daddy: Short and Sexy Fiction about a Very Forbidden Fantasy,” about incest. The feminist conference also included guest speaker Leslie Feinberg, a self-proclaimed Marxist revolutionary and female-to-male transgender who considers sex change operations to be part of class warfare against a capitalist and male-dominated society.

Spanier’s unwillingness to speak out against the promotion of sexual deviancy on campus is part of a consistent pattern of advocacy for non-traditional sexual behaviors. The most aggressive administrative support for deviant sex at Penn State has come through the Office of the Vice Provost for Educational Equity. The Spanier administration has been publicly supportive of annual “Gay Pride” activities on the Penn State University Park campus, and the Penn State Intercom publication has been regularly used as a promotional tool for homosexual gatherings since Spanier assumed the leadership role at Penn State. The administration has funded staff and expanded facilities for homosexual student/faculty resources.

Spanier, who holds a doctorate in sociology from Northwestern University, did his thesis on wife swapping in the 1970s and wrote on this topic for the Journal of Sex Research in February, 1974. In his article, “Co-marital mate-sharing and family stability,” he wrote, “…the evidence available to date offers no evidence to suggest that mate-swapping is harmful to marital or family stability.”

In his 1975 article, “Mate Swapping: Perceptions, Value Orientations, and Participation in a Midwestern Community,” for Archives of Sexual Behavior,” Spanier wrote: “An individual’s behavior becomes deviant only when others define it as deviant…. Mate swapping, then, can be viewed as either deviant or normal behavior, depending on who is viewing it and from what perspective it is being viewed.”

In the February, 1989 edition of Journal of Marriage and Family, Spanier expressed what some see as a clue to his Penn State policy agenda when he wrote that: “…we should be skeptical about any intellectual conviction about the superiority of the intact nuclear family.”

Dr. Spanier’s promotion of deviant sex was in evident in the early 1990s during his tenure as Chancellor of the University of Nebraska, where he aggressively lobbied for policies supportive of homosexuality. In one instance, he threatened to remove academic credit for ROTC classes unless Nebraska Senator Jim Exon lobbied the Defense Department to eliminate the ban on homosexuals serving in the military. Spanier’s Affirmative Action office distributed pink triangle decals to faculty and staff—with a request that these decals be displayed to indicate that homosexuals would have “safe spaces” on campus.

At Penn State, Dr. Spanier has permitted various bizarre sex fairs on campus, including the “C--- Fest” in November, 2000, named after a vulgar term for female sex organs. This was followed by the Sex Faire in February, 2001. This university-sanctioned event included “Orgasm Bingo,” where participants played Bingo with sexual obscenities written on bingo cards. Pennsylvania Representative John Lawless drew public attention to the indecent campus activities, and public pressure forced the administration to close down a “Tent of Consent” planned for the Sex Faire that was intended to provide a space for couples or groups to engage in consensual sexual activity.

Graham Spanier’s public history offers a clear pattern of promotion for sexual perversion. It is our view, judging from Dr. Spanier’s previous comments on wife-swapping, that he would likely conclude that individuals like Feinberg and Rice are perfectly normal and appropriate role models for Penn State students. After all, in Dr. Spanier’s world, deviancy is simply a matter of one’s perspective. Would he say the same thing about incest or adult/child sex? After all, some pedophiles consider themselves normal and merely victims of an intolerant society.

Dr. Spanier is an embarrassment to higher education and to the state of Pennsylvania. He should be viewed with alarm by parents who send their young men and women to this university system. Spanier’s strange views on sexual matters should be further investigated by the Pennsylvania state legislature—and for the safety of the students who attend Penn State, the Board of Trustees should promptly remove him from office.

Tent of Consent” LOL. Sounds like libertarian heaven.

No, why should you have to lose the freedom not to consent?

Though he chooses to be silent, Adamec has a duty to denounce Spanier's disordered fascination with sexual deviancy, as it represents an affront to area Catholics, an objective threat to Catholic students at Penn State, and an abuse of resources extracted from Pennsylvania taxpayers. This duty obtains regardless of these spectacles' venue and Spanier's religious affiliation (if any, though one presumes not).

Courage. In such short supply these days in the Church...

One would think with all of the angry lesbians running around, Coach Paterno could get one or two good offensive linesmen out of the bunch.

The after-game beer tab would go way up.

Just 25 Dollars will buy you a ticket to the Tent of Consent” where you can live out your most bizarre fantasy.

Gorilla, Gorilla, Gorilla, you can now have sex with a Gorilla in the Tent of Consent for a mere 25 Dollars.

Step right up and have your fantasies come true. That’s right folks you don’t have to be a Libertarian to have your fantasies fulfilled in the Tent of Consent.

The priest in question is an outspoken critic of the diocesan stance on homosexuality in general, and our bishop in particular. He is an excellent priest, very orthodox. (At one time Fr Paul Marx asked him to take over HLI but Bishop Adamec refused to release him.)

He has spoken against the abuses and dissent here in sermons and talks around the diocese, as well as numerous letters to the editor and guest columns in our local papers. He has been (rightfully) accusing the bishop of misfeasance both in failing to fight the homosexual agenda at Penn State as well as in the diocese in general.

The bishop has been trying to trump up canonical charges against him for years. This bishop is demonically vindictive against any priest or layperson that challenges him publicly.

Recently this priest's new parish assignment became public knowledge before it was "officially" announced in the bishop's annual parish assignments letter. The bishop considers this a gross breech of confidentiality, and combined with this priest's past public statements, is attempting to remove the priest's faculties to say mass publicly, hear confessions, preach, teach, etc.

This combined with the fact that this priest's brother is carrying on a newspaper ad and billboard ad campaign against the abuses here has our bishop in a bit of a rage.

We are in a very strange era, when such a man is permitted to ply his stranger agenda at a State University. Unless I am greatly mistaken, the Commonwealth laws still do favor normal marriage, so at the very least he is undermining the law. But, of course, this sort of lunacy reduces "higher education" to the status of a bad joke.

State Legislatures do indeed need to look into what goes on, on State campuses. This is not the only report one gets of the open promotion of sexual deviancy being subsidized by taxpayers on University campuses.

The only way to rid our colleges and universities of perverts like this is to hit them in the wallet. Do not send your children to these schools. There are plenty of good schools that do not promote this kind of sick B.S.

And personally? From what you say, his zeal for the defense of the Faith and the truth is -- comparatively -- lukewarm?
