TANCREDO, IMMIGRATION REFORM CAUCUS TO CALL FOR TROOPS ON BORDER

Is this an actual, honest-to-God invasion by a hostile power? If so, then invade Mexico, get rid of the offending government, and create one more suited to our interests.
If it's just keeping people out of the country who shouldn't be here, then use the duly sworn civilian law enforcement agencies to do the job.
Make up your mind. Either do it right, or not at all.
That's the sad truth. This will foul up the ongoing invasion from Mexico he openly supports. Bush is going to have to be dragged kicking and screaming to get him to fulfill his sworn constitutional duties to protect the country from invasion.
What is he going to do with all of those houses that we are going to have to pay for so that he can provide the American dream to them?
Maybe he'll expand the qualification list to peaceful Muslim immigrants.
And while I support virtually everything Tancredo does, I do have one question for the BP/INS/Customs employees here: Is BORTAC underutilized? Are they too far from the fun in So. AZ to respond quickly?
Some people are always trying to condemn having the military on the border, but it seems like we already have a capable paramilitary unit. So, does it make more sense to expand BORTAC and make them more pervasive along the border?
My own interaction with the Customs Air Unit in Tucson 20 years ago made me aware that they had some fairly decent assets, but they aren't that big of an operation, and I wonder how quickly they can respond to an emerging situation. Comments?

Let's take on one enemy at a time. Meanwhile the first priorities are to stem the tide of the illegal alien invaders at the borders and the mass deportation of the ones already here. I agree with you that enforcing penalties on businesses that hire illegals is one of the most effective ways to combat illegal immigration. No Jobs, No economic incentive to come here...excluding welfare.
Now that is a great idea. I know several guys from the middle east that sleep in their taxi's at the airport and never take a bath.
Obviously, we need to make our borders secure in order to thwart the entry of terrorists from known terrorism-breeding countries. But if we are simply trying to slow down or stop illegal immigration from Mexico, there are better and more effective ways to go about it. Yes we should increase the number of BP agents to make it as difficult as possible for illegal aliens to get through, but as has been mentioned numerous times here on many different illegal immigration threads, we need to go after the employers who hire the illegals, and we need to cut off all social services to illegals. What would be the point for an illegal alien to come to the U.S. from Mexico if they knew that they couldn't get either work or welfare here. That, along with changing the "anchor baby" amendment and revisiting the SCOTUS ruling that mandates that illegal alien children have a right to a public education at U.S. taxpayer's expense, would do a lot to reduce the flow of illegal immigration from Mexico to a trickle.
You neglect to mention that such drastic measures are being contemplated only because the federal government has so far neglected its duties in this area.
The 'close the borders NOW folks' don't really want military authority on the southern border. Most don't even want an immense wall along it. And nobody wants to invade Mexico. We just want the government to do its job and protect the border. We would be perfectly happy to see the Border Patrol empowered and allowed to actually accomplish this task in the legally proscribed manner.
Mexican troops are assisting in illegal drug smuggling therefore the drug smuggling is militarized as far as American citizens are concerned. This is also an easy avenue for terrorists and weapon smuggling.
We need to get troops on the border until we can get the mass numbers under control while we also kick illegal aliens out and get them off American welfare.
Illegals crossing the border is not unusual, so they probably don't get used much.
ajnin is the BP expert, so he can answer this question better than I can.
Does the multi-billion dollar drug smuggling figure in as an episode? How many fatalities? Considering much of this is aimed at kids, how much damage does it do there?
While we ignore all that I guess we should wait for something big to come across so we can get a whole bunch of people dead at once effect.

I don't think it's out of the mission scope for BORTAC to be responding to more of the major incidents/incursions, at least insofar as the mission statement reads. Certainly, if Mexican army units are on the ground inside the U.S. doing whatever, it seems reasonable for them to respond to that. Perhaps they have, and it just goes unmentioned...
Why can't we secure the borders of our own country?
After all, they have murdered us HERE and will continue to murder us HERE.
Consider that the Mexicans have declared that they will regain the US Southwest. Everyone is aware of the political movement in Mexico and here in the US to achieve that end. Now for a bit of history lesson.
War can be and is fought on different levels, military, psychological, political and economic. We had an ongoing “cold war” with the Soviet Union for many years in the political, psychological and economic arena. We won by defeating them in the economic arena by causing them to spend themselves into bankruptcy to maintain their military equivalency to ours. Not a battle was fought.
The Mexicans are waging war with masses of their people (unarmed combatants) swarming across our borders to populate our States to the extent of them becoming a majority. In the meantime they are draining the resources (economic warfare), overwhelming the infrastructures (economic warfare), changing culture and language (psychological warfare) and by becoming the majority, will elect even more Mexico friendly and open border proponents to the various legislative bodies (political warfare).
One morning you and I will wake up and see that the Southwest US is MEXICO, if not de jure then de facto.
Maybe that is not an invasion by a hostile power in your book, it is in mine.

It is very evident that civilian law enforcement is not up to the job. When the border control was called upon to do checks at border crossings and to perform cursory patrols along the border to chase back or apprehend an occasional trespasser they did the job quite well. Now they are overwhelmed even if using the conservative figures published.
It is not a matter of an occasional Mexican sneaking in to get a job or even bringing in his family, it is a concentrated effort orchestrated by Mexican officials to flood our country with their nationals for the express purpose of reclaiming sections of the US. It is happening before our very own eyes yet most everyone is either too blind or naïve to see or too self absorbed to care.
When George W. Bush was sworn to the office of President of the United States, he swore to uphold the Constitution and to protect against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Mr. President, do your duty!
