Where Do YOU Draw The Line???

"The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." -- Edward Burke
I believe, strongly, that it is only natural that a Conservative would not particularly look forward to a career in politics because it's SUPPOSED to be more of a responsibility than a privilege ... but at some point, when a certain line is crossed, a Conservative is duty bound to his nation to offer to shoulder the responsibility to return things to their proper order (which may or may not be the way they were before).
Ronald Reagan once stated that he was offering himself up as a Presidential candidate (in 1976, I think) ONLY because there was no other candidate offering what he was offering the American people; there was a line that had been (or was close to being) crossed. And though it was quite obvious that he was immensely honored and grateful to be America's President I honestly believe that President Reagan felt relief the day he handed the keys of the White House over to George the first Bush. He'd done his duty.
So the question is; what would it take to make you decide to run for office? I mean to say, what line would the Democrats (or the Left in general) have to cross (in City Hall, State Capital, D.C.) before you would say "Enough is enough!" and throw your hat into the ring of electoral politics? And are you sure those lines haven't been crossed yet?

Tossing my hat in to the ring could only hurt my own cause.

Easy; George Washington's "straight line."
Something from, and about, which President George Bush could learn quite a lot.

They'd have to kill off all the better candidates than I; i.e., about 90 bazillion people.

Check out the goings on in the Tennessee state government and you will find out what it takes.

Dr. Laura publicly drew the line if Hillary ran for President she would too, not that Dr. Laura is viable, but one data point for you.

I have been thinking of running for Congress once I retire from the Corps. The only thing standing in my way would be money. If I do it will be from the great state of Arizona. I feel if I can get my message out I have a chance, the only problem is paying for it. Semper Fi.

There is nothing I can think of that would make me want to be a politician.

I could never become a politician. I have to be able to shave in the morning, and I couldn't look in the mirror if I ran for public office.

The major disqualification to hold public office should be volunteering to run for it.

All of us here use the soap box, the politicians hope that too few of us will use the ballot box, while some of us train to use the ammo box should the first two fail.

What if your state's Democrats raise taxes by 50%?
What if your state's Democrats institute a Gun Confiscation Program?
What if your state's Democrats adopt the Kyoto Treaty?
What if your state's Democrats adopt the CEDAW Treaty?
What if your state's Democrats move to make Home Schooling illegal?
What if your state's Democrats instituted a state curriculum that bans American History?
Where/what is your line?

If you run
START LOCAL. Get your name out there. If you are planning to make it in politics, run to WIN. Don't start at Congress. Start at school board, clerk, county commish, city council, or township board. Those people become state reps, and later congressman. That's how it's done.

I've think they've crossed enough lines on plenty of occassions. Two things keep me from running: 1) Most importantly, I doubt I could handle the pressure: worrying constantly if the decisions I made and the people I picked for offices were the right ones. 2) Nobody listens to me as it is. And on top of that, it'd be my fault because I was the guy charge.
If I could beat those two things, I'd be a complete bear for ONE term. (Cuz they wouldn't take me for another.) I wouldn't host any parties and rarely attend fund raisers. I'd go to schools and tell the kids to study hard, stay out of trouble, and don't let the teachers scare you. I'd tell special interests to keep their money and take a hike. I'd veto damn near everything that didn't repeal something. If I hadn't made enough enemies by then to be impeached, I probably didn't fulfill the duties of my office sufficiently.

I should amend that a little. I'd definitely go out and make myself available to the man on the street. I'd show up around dinner time, too.
