Senate Democrats yesterday barred the public from a committee meeting and vote on a land-use bill that opponents believe will impose federal standards on local zoning boards.
"This was no accident; this was a purposeful sham," said Mike Hardiman, spokesman for the American Land Rights Association, who lined up shortly after 8 a.m. to attend the 9:30 a.m. hearing in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. He said the senators were trying to pass an indefensible bill in secret.

Believe you me when I tell you that when there are enough laws everyone will be an outlaw and government will be by fiat of those in power. The obvious solution is to be an outlaw now and get it over with. If they try to take your land "legally" , shoot them! You're gonna loose it anyway. Might as well make them pay for it, in blood. There's a saying where I come from, if you're gonna be a bear, be a GRIZZLY BEAR. It all comes down to how much each side is willing to loose. And the side willing to loose the most will win. When the fednazi corpses start piling up they will have to rethink their policy or cease to exist.
If you're not willing to loose, you've already lost and you might as well hand them the keys to your house, car, land, wives, husbands, and children.
LIVE FREE , DIE FREE!!
I hope Baucus gets dragged over the coals for this. Montanans are not exactly the type that want the Feds controlling local laws. The GOP better attack him hard and fast on this one.
I just about fell out of my chair the other day when Chuckie Schumer was debating the ethanol portion of the energy bill on the Senate the other day. He had the gall to say, "well, I just don't see why a small group or region like this can dictate what the rest of the country does." Gee Chuck, seems those of us in the West of been saying that about you Northeasterners for some time now. Interesting isn't it that there is no Federal land in your region of the country, but west of the Mississippi is practically one big Federal play ground. But of course, you guys don't even want us to be able to play in that ground either. Aaaaarghh!
As a result, our society will become more socialistic and a police state. It's time to wake up to the facts. The time will come when we, THE PEOPLE, have to choose sides and, as Jefferson put it, "feed the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots and tyrants." (maybe not an exact quote, but close enough).
The fact that the Senate is being so secretive only proves it's Unconstitutional.
Is there anything we can do at this point?
deserves a repeat, bump
Hearing allows opponents to voice concerns
Washington, DC - Congressman Steve Chabot (R, Cincinnati) held a hearing Thursday in the Constitution Subcommittee to review the Department of Housing and Urban Development's "Growing Smart Legislative Guidebook" which contains recommendations and sample legislation for changing state and local land use laws.
The $2 million, seven-year project was sponsored by HUD and drafted by the American Planning Association. Although HUD had the opportunity to disapprove the Guidebook or attach dissenting views, they failed to exercise these rights, thus making the Guidebook an official federal government work product. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the disproportionate composition of the "Directorate" that developed the Guidebook - only one member of the regulated community served on the Directorate while 29 representatives of the regulating community were included.
More here.
The bill's sponsors are Sens. James M. Jeffords, Vermont independent, and Lincoln Chaffee, Rhode Island Republican.
With a little asphalt, Connecticut and Vermont would make damn fine parking lots.
Anyone else for a federal land grab of 50% of New England? It's what we in the West have to live with, and I want equal protection under the law. Of course, they could return control of our States to us, and butt out of our business.
Every time someone in the Northeast farts, they think they've had a brainstorm or special revelation for the rest of ust to live by. It's ever more difficult not to wish them ill.
I've been saying this FOR YEARS!!! Personnally, I prefer starting with the whole state of Massachusetts.
Heck, that deserves two bumps and a bold!
If so, how about Vermont then? Connecticut would work too.
