***VANITY*** Comments on Heckler & Koch P7M8

Posted on 04/15/2002 8:36:51 PM PDT by mondonico

Anybody have anything good or bad to say about the HK P7M8? It looks like a sweet gun, though expensive.

Thanks.

I like mine. Reliable and I really like the positive Safety built into the grip. I bought mine about ten years ago. I thought they had been discontinued.

Haven't seen a fireams thread of this type in awhile.has anyone fired a Ruger Vaquero with .44mag cartridges? It doesn't seem to have a very large frame, but Ruger usually makes sturdy frames,so I'm wondering if it's comfortable to shoot.

I am sure it's a fine "peestola", but for for my firearm buck I'll always buy a Colt or clone of a 1911 .45ACP.
3.5", 4" or 5" pipe. 6 rounds to 14, it is the standard that all are measured by and many are found wanting.

The reason the services went to the 9mm Beratta is for equality of the sexes and our swishy European "Allies" limp wrists.

For years I shot the 325 grain slugs, made with SSK molds, over a compressed charge of 21.5 gr. of 296. These were pretty stiff out of a 44mag, but never really bothered me unless I forgot earplugs (!). This was my 'bear country' berry-picking load, and would penetrate 18" of gravel pile w/ 80%+ retention. I can keep it on a paper plate at 100 yds. with open sights . . .

I think the secret of dealing with recoil in a revolver is to hold the grip with relaxed hands, and let the weight of the gun soak up the recoil. The revolver goes up pretty high at the shot, but I never had one fly out of my hands !!

As others have said, if you're willing to train with the pistol to become proficient with the somewhat unorthodox manual of arms, it is an awesome piece of gear. They can be very, very fast in the right hands.

Although they may have dried up a bit, there have been a great deal of police trade-ins (including from Germany) on the market over the past few years for between 600-800. Try Ky Imports or Four Seasons. Judicious searching should find one or more available.

I hate HK. I got more black eyes from the G3, and Bronze Shutzenschnurs, than I care to think about.

How did the G3 give you a shiner? and what is a 'bronze whatchamacallit' ?

"For instance, when the slide locks back on empty you must squeeze the grip when you put in a new mag for a fast reload."

Why? Can you do a one handed mag change?

G3 has no buffer - if you use the "8-steady-hold factors", the way one is taught to fire US weapons (SPECIFICALLY: CHEEK-TO-STOCK-WELD), the receiver will give you a black eye.

A bronze whatchamacallit is what a very good american sniper gets when he has a black eye.

This is a very dependable and very expensive ($1,300+) handgun. I'm just not a 9mm or double action fan.

Yes, never really liked the G3 that much. The FAL is more accurate, more available, more reliable and has better ergos. I know a lot of folks like the M14 too, but I'm not as familiar with it. I still consider the FAL the best of the .308 semi-autos. Especially the actual FN article. Some of the copies are horrible.

The squeeze-cocker seems like a answer in search of a question. If you want a small DAO style, go Kahr. If you want a double action decoker, I'd go with a SIG. If you want a double action with a safety I'd go with a CZ. With any of these your going to have a similar manual of arms and be able to shoot related pistols easliy.

I too prefer the .45, but the 9 has it's place I suppose. (Kahr MK-9 is a reasonable alternative to the ubiquitous .38 snubnose)

Top choice - this one, the CZ-97B in .45:

My buddy went through the HRP program with the Secret Service. His comment on the P-7 is that the slide is small, and heats up quick...
