Welcome Back Rush. Eight years ago he was the lone Marine telling the truth about the awful Clinton Administation. Today he's one of many conservative radio hosts and serves a vast audience. What a great man, who truly has the courage of a lion.

Rush just commenting that reports of his hearing being back to 80% might be a bit premature, though he has definitely regained a lot of his ability to hear.

On another note,I'd be interested to get people's take on how Rush's voice sounds. I'd say he is not back to his pre-problem voice, but there does seem to be an improvement from the period when he had virtually no hearing. Your thoughts?

It's what he says, not how he says it that's important. He sounds GREAT (as always) to me!

Well said. Still I'm sure that as a broadcast professional, and for understandable human reasons, Rush himself would like to entirely return to his pre-problem voice.

All during the time of his hearing loss, he never played the victim. He always looked at this as a new challenge to be overcome and conquered. I have two dear friends (husband and wife) who have contacted diabetes and cancer (repectively) this past year and who have no insurance (they're ranchers). The husband is dieting and has lost much weight, and the wife has had six surgeries and radiation. Despite all their travails, they are positive upbeat people who do not dwell on their sickness; they make adjustments to their lifestyles, surround themselves with other upbeat people and move on.

Where would we have been all those long horrible years without Rush? Think how awful it would have been, with no one telling us the truth in the media. I think back to those early days, right before I found Rush, and I can't even imagine how the clinton years would have played out without Rush's voice of reason.

Rush has been an example to us all. He has handled this so gracefully.

Rush saying that Doctors discourage having an implant in both years due to possible future medical advances that may bring back hearing to the second ear. Having the implant completely destroys the original inner ear and so they are strongly suggesting he keep an ear in reserve, so to speak. He indicated he would take that advice. Also, it will take several years for doctors to assign a hearing percentage return - Rush is staying away from a number. But he does say he can hear water trickling in a fountain and small objects dropped.

'On another note,I'd be interested to get people's take on how Rush's voice sounds."

A little gravelly, but the pitch is better. It seems that the 'control board adjustments' made to compensate for the hearing loss and change of pitch will have to be reversed. I assume that the pre-loss voice will be reestablished through the 'sound board'. I just hope Rush hears well enough to recognize his 'old' voice the same as we do. The 'Voice of Conservative and Self-Thinking Americans' everywhere.

He just took his first call.. No doubt. There is no staging going on here. Lively give and take with the first caller...

I am no doctor but I doubt he meant inner ear. The inner ear controls balance.

Back when he first announced his deafness, someone posted a diagram of the procedure. I searched but couldn't find the figure. Maybe someone can post it and show exactly what part of the ear had the implant (obviously they must avoid affecting his balance).

Whoops -- Just now Rush says he will post a figure on his site. He read my mind!
