Today, out-of-town FReepers and Patriots accompanied members of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic in paying respects to the victims of terrorism and in a heart-felt show of support to members of our great countrys Armed Services.
We gathered at a small knoll overlooking the Pentagon, a place that has become a grass-roots shrine to all that is good about our country.
I will not dwell on words, as they would not do justice to the emotions experienced by those that attended, by the tourists and locals who approached us with either words of encouragement or in seeking solace by conversing with Patriotic Americans.
It was a time of remembrance and of conviction it was also a time that FReepers who have stood on the line together previously and know each other well - reaffirmed the bond that unites us.
These are the first of the pictures I took today more will follow shortly.
The Honor Roll includes kristinn, Angelwood (and Husband), leadpenny, tgslTakoma, Dr Raoul, AgreatPer, ELS, Trueblackman, Fred Mertz, BufordP, stand watie, and Dave Dilegge plus the true American Patriots that engaged us and offered words of support.
Salute.
Thanks Dave for the ping...
Nevertheless, a warm thank you to all who did attend. Thank you for the recognition you gave these victims, and thank you for carrying the sentiments of thousands of FReepers who could not be there.
NEVER FORGET ...
God Bless America and Free Republic

We won't!
God Bless the amazing DC Free Republic Chapter ( and guests ) . I love what you do, what you stand for and it is great to see your beautiful faces! God Bless our Free Republic and all who work to keep it rolling!
The small display that we placed on the memorial hill drew many visitors and sparked conversations. Two vases of red, white and blue flowers are separated with a small flag in between with larger flags on each side. Laminated pictures of BKO and BCM are in each vase. Propped in front of each vase is a laminated sheet. One has the Washington Times Veterans Day Memorial Tribute Ads (including the DC Chapter tribute) and the other has the "Army of One" graphic that I found on a Free Republic thread. A DC Chapter pin is affixed to the graphic and we signed a DC Chapter logo sheet to leave at the memorial. Several other small protest/support signs in miniature are scattered near the flowers.
It was an overcast and rainy day in the DC metro area, except for several hours while we were in attendance on the hill. It rained again quite hard a few hours after dark.
People seem drawn to the Pentagon memorial with a steady stream of traffic coming and going. Hundreds of people visited the site while we were there. There are about 5 trees on the hillside -- none of them are very big or old, but all of them have become memorial sites with items placed all around.
There are flags (new and weathered, big and small), pins, poems, tributes from companies and school children, flowers, ribbons, coins, pictures of those who died in the Pentagon attack, trinkets, candles, hand drawn pictures, scarves, buttons, and much more. The trees are decorated with some of the items and the hill has a direct view of the damaged portion of the Pentagon itself.
As we assembled near the top of the hill and unfurled our flags, some cars passing behind us on Washington Boulevard would honk. A number of those visiting the memorial site approached to talk to us. One such visitor from Louisiana, wearing a shirt with GRAMPS on the front, was eager to expand his Internet skills and promised to check out Free Republic when he returns home.
Regretfully, my husband and I had to leave before Doctor Raoul and ELS arrived and I'm sorry that I missed them. But it was a pleasure to once again stand beside my fellow FReepers to honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, pay tribute to our veterans and support the men and women engaged in the current struggle. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!
