I've never given to the UW; they're too divisive. Their name conjures mental images of the two ducks who fly united...
Ain't this criminal misrepresentation? False advertising?
Freepmail me if you want off this ping list; no offense taken. Even if you mean it...
To: packrat01
ping answered. I do not donate to charities that employ mega-buck CEO's.

It appears that we are looking at the tip of the iceberg. Many major charities need to be dismantled or completely overhauled.

A conservative legal group said Thursday that the United Way should take back a $171,000 donation to an organization that is representing several detainees in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks. . . "They did not contribute to help the terrorists, their supporters or people arrested or detained because they violated immigration laws," the group wrote the United Way of New York.
I don't know if you've seen this, but Bill O'Reilly has been beating this issue on "The Factor" on FOX News Channel too. I have thought about what he's saying and IMHO, I consider this the Charity equivalent of "bait and switch." Ya ain't gettin' what you're buyin' (BEING SOLD). If you are solicited to help WTC folks, THAT is EXACTLY where that money should go. If you contact a charity organization and tell them you want to help the WTC victims, then THAT is EXACTLY where that money should go. IMHO, any organization that doesn't do that, is criminally liable.
Thanks for the ping, friend!

I like to donate directly to groups I support instead of the United Way. As for you ping list, I will wait and see if I wind up with dozens and dozens of pings from you each morning.
To: packrat01
Thanks for the ping. Legal Aid groups do get funds from various sources for various purposes so their explanation of this situation could be true. But typically a piece of every grant goes toward overhead so indirectly donors may be paying the overhead of lawyers defending detainees.
Still, I don't give to the UA or the Red Cross- too much of that $ goes to pay fat salaries and perks. Nice work if you can get it but I ain't paying for it.

As a family who actively supports charity rganization(s)?
The *recent* move by
The Salvation Army at the
national level to
reverse their
western region's decision of last week to grant, "domestic partner" benefits makes this a
no brainer for our house.
The Salvation Army shall continue to recieve our support because they've NOT permitted pressure from *certain* groups whose interests
and agendas directly conflict with who & what the SA represents, from obscuring their
primary mission.
The United Way on the other hand, and specifically UW's management who're responsible for more than a few mighty assinine politically correct policies (+padding their pockets)?
Shall continue to go for want, as far as our charity dollars go.
As I said, it's a no-brainer.
The Salvation Army merits our financial support, while the United Way does not.

I had already e-mailed this story to FOX NEWS a couple of days ago. They aired it the next day. United Way is an anti-2nd Amendment Organization anway ... that is why they can kiss my ass for anything. I won't donate a dime to them.

I never give to the Untied Way no matter what my bosses uses to tell me. They can not fire you for not giving. I've been dealing with that stuff for 20 years, and I never give to the United way. We hired a social worker who interned at the United Way, and the stories she would tell!
I used to work for the Red Cross. I Quit ASAP! I was so disappointed with the Red Cross, but nothing I have heard they did, surprises me.

Americans must not give money to these scam artist/middlemen IMHO. I give my time, blood and if need be hand deliver my monetary donation to the victim versus these "charity" organizations trying to justify their overhead and administrative cost's.
I remember at a DOE facility there was a group of lawyers called GAP that was trying to "create" whistleblows from people that shouldn't have been trusted with a broom much less a tool and it was discovered that they got one third of their funding from UW.
Americans want to help, should help and trust that their monetary donations for the 9-11 atrocity will go to "the victims and families". Insurance will rebuild and Goobermint will fund the "cleanup" but who will help the child who lost both parents, who will help the spouse make the mortage payments and get back on their feet ? That's what those donations were for, not to give every unemployed psych doc/therapist a check while they alledgedly conduct grief counseling en masse......
Help is an American Tradition and should happen without question. Now these white elephant organizations have lined their nests with our dollars intended for the VICTIMS not the future of the administrators of the charities. They have created doubt as to my dollar being used with validity.
As to me , I deliver cash directly to the victims from now on if I can't go and help in person........
Stay Safe Packrat, sorry for the rant !!

What I'd like to know is why it has taken so long for the RC to reverse their arrogant stance and decide that they should try to do what is right.
To: packrat01
The National Legal and Policy Center believes donors would not want their money supporting the Legal Aid Society, which is representing several of the detainees being held on immigration charges and also is helping them find permanent counsel. Of course not! Thanks for the flag.

Please remove me from your Bump list. BTW, I have refused to give to the United Way for years after I discovered the corruption and mismanagement of funds at their national headquarters.

Keep me on this ping list! The United Way hasn't gotten any money from me in years and it will never get any again! I consider them a corrupt organization that spends too much on management and no enough on charitable organizations.
Also when you mark a certain charity if that charity has already met their goal of money donated, the United Way will take your money and put it elsewhere at their discretion!
Must admit this latest deal of theirs is the lowest they have sunk and I didn't think they could get any lower. Question: Is ms. clinton somehow involved with the United Way? This just sounds like something she would have them do!
To: packrat01
Unable to join the American mainstream, they will fester in ethnic ghettos, work for sub-standard wages, reproduce, vote the straight Democrat ticket and provide cover for terrorists. This goes to show that as long as the Democrats can get votes they have an invested interest to continue a failed immigration policy. A policy that allows people to come into the country who have no interest in learning English or becoming Americans.
To: packrat01
Everyone almost forced through their employment to give to UW should demand a refund! First, they started with the Boy Scouts, but to donate to lawyers who will defend those charged with starting war on our shores is unconscienable! I think we should start a huge FReep campaign. Enough!
To: packrat01
I could care less about the United Way or the Red Cross. Screw them both. I contribute to the Salvation Army. And I'll ring the bell for them anytime.
To: packrat01
Totally agree with you, I would never give to UW, or the Red Cross, or many others. Did you know that the Red Cross will not release how many Americans were registered as POWs by the Germans during WWII. Too many didn't come home because of a side trip to the Soviet Union, and it's a political thing.
