Taliban buried alive in mountains: Survivor

"I thought I was going to die — the earth was raining from the skies," a Taliban survivor told the Sun while describing how an entire unit was buried alive in a strike by US B-52s.

Osman Rakhim, 23, said the explosions caused by the giant US bombers started a landslide on his mountainside position.

He said dozens of troops were killed when hundreds of tons of earth and rock came down on top of them.

Rakhim wandered away from the carnage in a daze and later surrendered to the Northern Alliance. He said a whole unit of fighters dug in behind him were buried.

Rakhim told the Sun: “I could not see, I couldn’t breathe. Everything was in darkness ... There were many, many bombs. The earth shook and it rained rocks and shrapnel.

“The hillside was falling on us. There were about 300 of us there dug in with sandbags. I have no idea how many were killed.

The Taliban is the epitome of what the Afghan people are about. Those who say the Isalms are basically good people are wrong.

IMO, The Afghans wanted what the Taliban had to offer so badly, the're willing to let these Taliban foreigners run their country. Not one single leader in the Taliban is from Afghanistan.

You know, not all of these guys are radical fundamentalists or terrorists. A lot of the common soldiers probably just work there and don't like any of this much more than you or I do.

That is a good point. Many of the soldiers were forcibly recruited at gunpoint and their houses burned and families killed so they would have nothing to escape to. Maybe he's one of the good guys.

I agree. I live very close to the flightline of a B-52 base and hear them coming and going all the time. At night, I often open my window so the whine of their engines can put me to sleep. Some are bothered by the noise, but I think it's beautiful.

The problem is the governments of the countries that either allow people like Saddam to get into power, allow religions to dictate policy, or house terrorists. In other words, the opposite of our Constitution.

You assume WAY too much. As though everything else is equal except that the "governments" "permit" people like that to get into power. The fact is that throughout history it has virtually ALWAYS been people like that who have gotten power. That it happens less often in the West is because of the types of governments that have become the norm as well as a general change in the masses' political attitudes and expectations of life. Other places, such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, almost anywhere in Africa, most of the Middle East, are still living in the Middle Ages. It wouldn't even occur to most of populace whether or not they should "permit" such folks as Saddam et al. from coming to power. As far as "the governments" of these countries--the government is only the gang of the previous guy to hold power. In the Dominican Republic, the government is called the "huacal" (sp.), the wooden box for Coke bottles. It's a bunch of empty spaces that are filled up by all the new guy's friends. How do they get their position? Amiguismo. THAT is the historical norm.

Yes. I would rather my tax dollars be spent to provide for our national defense by attacking armed people who are engaged in a war against us than used to bomb aspirin factories and some kind of sorry arse 'pretend' retribution.

These men were in a war. They well know of our superior armament. That is why they have to resort to cowardly tactics of bioweapons and surprise attacks on unarmed, unsuspecting American citizens.

All I have to say is reality can really hurt when you have been living in a world full of hate that promises rewards for cowardly behavior.

The taliban hates its people enough that it refuses to turn over very sick criminals. Maybe some of them will wake up to the cowardly cave hiding creeps who have so oppressed their people, removing all joy from their lives, forcing women to never experience the joy of sunshine on their faces, immersing children in hate and destroying their God given right to laugh and play. And worse, these freaky ruling taliban jerks, sitting on their thrones and decreeing such cruel and hurtful rules on their own people, HIDE LIKE COWARDS while sending out those they have brainwashed to do their dirty deeds. Shameful. Allah must be weeping.

Enternity is a very long time. They have a thing there called the 7,000 year itch. Big problem. High divorce rate. Younger virgins break up many homes.

Exactly. What we would LIKE to do is "destroy terrorism", but that's not likely, unless Islam is expunged from the earth, which is even less likely. What we are HOPING to do is convince the terrorists that the US is too hard a target, and attacking it will mean too many of their civilians die. That is to convince them to attack 'softer' targets : The EU (where in certain locales Muslims are 12% or more of the population), Asia (Russia and China have Muslim populations), or best of all, other Muslims. If the radical Muslims and the moderate Muslims (the ones who only want to enslave or 'dhimmize' nonmuslims, not kill them) wind up playing out the Calico Cat and the Patchwork Dog tale of our childhood to its conclusion, so much the better.
