I'm glad you gave us this post, vannrox. These photo's are very much like ones I have taken myself, and they bring back memories both good, yet bittersweet.
I, too, have been haunted by the thought of those poor souls who made the choice. As with any horror, it helps to talk and retalk about it.
I've often wondered what I would do. If it was my choice to jump, would I want to see below me, or fall with my eyes facing above, as if facing my maker. I guess I would choose facing above, but I don't think that choice was even given to them. They just had to escape. My only hope was that these poor people were so stunned by the situation that they were numbed and felt nothing.
God rest their souls.

It is still hard to look at these pictures, eight months later. May all their sould rest in peace!
Our government must not let this happen again. Mr. Cheney said today he believes it will happen again. What kind of message does that send to the enemy?

I agree. Getting my family out of NYC for the 4th of July gives me some peace of mind. I'm worried again. Seeing these pics again hits hard.

The building in which the Triangle fire happened still stands.
It has since been renamed from the Asch Building to the Brown Building, and it is now part of New York University.
Every March a commemoration is held in the street by the building, and a fire ladder is raised to the maximum height of the ladder that could not reach high enough to save the people who jumped.
If you explore the link I posted, you'll find photos of the ceremony through the years.

Why are you and others acting like this. This thread helps to visualize. Some people are visual thinkers and visualize and comprehend deeply. There is nothing wrong with this thread.

Thanks for the pictures...the reminder.

You and I are on the same page. I have never been in a skyscraper either, and never even seen one in person. I am in central California, and we just don't have buildings like this here.
The view from the ground up was the most incredible, and really gives one a different prospective.
These kinds of pictures should be shown so we never forget what happened that day. I will not ever understand why people want these pictures hidden from view.

I figured there would be some sort of memorial there.

The people jumped because it was so hot, that they were burning to death. So they had a choice: burn to death under 2000-degree fires or jump.
To: Dec31,1999
Yet we decide to keep these people aroud out of a sense of fairness.
Expect more of the same.

Thanks for the pictures...the reminder. I have spent a lot of time thinking about those poor people who jumped to their deaths. God Bless Them All...

HBO is running a memorial next Sunday, May 26 at 9 pm CST. I've read some advance reviews, and there will be video of jumpers.
It is supposed to be chilling.

Thanks for the info.
Freepers: Get the tapes rolling. It may sound rude, but better to be prepared with info than not.
BTW,I don't have HBO. Perhaps I can sign up just for a few days to get this event.

It is still hard to look at these pictures, eight months later.I still have nightmares almost every night, vividly recalling everything I saw that day and the two times I thought I was going to die.
To: sinkspur
Good. It needs to be chilling and upset people. I fear that too many people (not FReepers) have forgotten the hideous pain we all felt and the raw devastation from the first days in the aftermath. They need to be bitchslapped back into reality.
