Read it straight out of the Quran, lots of links to Quran verses, lots of articles, and related links.

I was reading some parts of an English translation of the Quran. It's a bit frightening, esp. the parts about the holy war.

bump for later.
Too many of Islam's subjects are foeced into it with out he notion of free will, i.e., believe it or else!

I have always thought that Islam was a state of mentality that uneducated people follow. Kinda of like church for trailer trash.

There are several websites that say the same thing about the Bible (gays and witches must be killed, etc). Just because the Bible says gays must die doesn't mean Christians will kill them. People are not robots although you can always find people to kill in the name of [fill in the blank]. We recently had two guys die for marijuana.

But Appy, you must admit, the new testament does not say this, that is the advocating of killing of gays. And, too, Jesus lived an exemplary life. On another thread an article was quoted wherein the author said when discussing religion and defending it always ask for "just the facts, ma'am." If the facts of the religion say one thing, but a member of the religion invokes the religion and does an evil thing, that is a relflection of the individual. On the other hand, if the religion actually espouses evil acts, as a basic part of its tenets, it must be considered in light of that. V's wife.

I'm not saying I disagree, but I got a post pulled from FR just last night that quoted the Koran on Allah's alleged aversion to yawning, and preference for sneezing. So be careful--evidently using the Muslims own texts is forbidden just now.

Whether it does or doesn't is irrelevant to the people desparate to smear Christianity.

Intersting site, but when you get to the part about Muhammed being possesed, the author goes into a rant aganst creationists!

Hmm.. I have bookmarked this, and am digging through my digital copy of the Qu'ran to check this out. I agree generally with the assessments on Islam here, but disagree with the author's assertion that religion is to blame for all of the murder in the world (Stalin, after all, didn't need any religion but "Marxism" to murder 26 million Russians..), when it's clear that Human Nature is perfectly capable of doing evil without the help of "religion". It is my humble opinion that the author is misguided in this respect.
Based on my earlier readings of the Qu'ran, I've seen Christians and Jews referred to as fellow believers in the One True G-d (Allah), and that they are to be considered as part of the group of "Believers" (wherever you see that catchword, think "Judeo-Christians + Muslims"). Perhaps my assumptions are incorrect...
Are there any Freepers out there with in-depth study of the Qu'ran who can shed some light here?

But Appy, you must admit, the new testament does not say this, that is the advocating of killing of gays. In fact, the Old Testament does not advocate the killing of gays by individuals. It does advocate making homosexuality a capital offense for a theocratic government. Ditto adultery. That's why (IMO) Jesus stopped the crowd from stoning the woman found in adultery. They were not members of the government and had not followed due process. The woman had not been subject to trial nor given an opportunity to defend herself, let alone repent.
The misapplication of G-d's word to the Jewish Government as G-d's word to the believer causes no end of grief.
Shalom.

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction." -Pascal Well, he should have added ideology, particularly leftist assumed ideology. But I guess ideology as a word did not exist in Pascal's time.

Islam must go not because it is false but because it is destructive...Exactly. Countless other religions are also false, but do not threaten anyone.
To: FR_addict
We need to call it for what it is. Cult(klt) n. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. The followers of such a religion or sect.

I was just thinking the same thing. The New Testiment also pretty much seems to suggest that no other religions but Christianity are worthwhile, and non-believers go to hell. Christianity had it's own Crusades and Inquisitions centuries ago. They grew and learn and changed, and you don't see that sort of thing anymore, really.
Unfortunately, it seems to be Islams turn...what a bitch they had to go completely nutso in an age of airplanes, guns and nuclear bombs :(

I always thought of Islam as a religion more like Buddhism.
I never dreamed that the leader was a pedophile, slave holder, torturor, warrior, etc.
My Christian faith is not as strong as I would like, but when you compare the leaders of these two religions, it makes me believe more than ever in Jesus and his teachings.
I don't believe we should ignore the teachings of their leader.
I am sure there are many Moslems that don't advocate in the terrorist tactics of the last few days, but we should be aware of the tenets of this religion. I am hoping that some of these Moslems re-evaluate their faith in this religion.
I have friends that are Moslems, but I plan to follow Reagan's excellent advice: "Trust but Verify".

By comparison, the Old Testament accepts the virtually equal existence of non-Jews. They were governed within the Jewish nation by the Noahide Laws which are seven commandments similar to the Ten Commandments. The major differences are 1) that non-Jews are not required to worship the Jewish God, and 2) they are not to blaspheme God.
