Read it straight out of the Quran, lots of links to Quran verses, lots of articles, and related links.

I was reading some parts of an English translation of the Quran. It's a bit frightening, esp. the parts about the holy war.

I have always thought that Islam was a state of mentality that uneducated people follow. Kinda of like church for trailer trash.

There are several websites that say the same thing about the Bible (gays and witches must be killed, etc). Just because the Bible says gays must die doesn't mean Christians will kill them. People are not robots although you can always find people to kill in the name of [fill in the blank]. We recently had two guys die for marijuana.

I'm not saying I disagree, but I got a post pulled from FR just last night that quoted the Koran on Allah's alleged aversion to yawning, and preference for sneezing. So be careful--evidently using the Muslims own texts is forbidden just now.

Hmm.. I have bookmarked this, and am digging through my digital copy of the Qu'ran to check this out. I agree generally with the assessments on Islam here, but disagree with the author's assertion that religion is to blame for all of the murder in the world (Stalin, after all, didn't need any religion but "Marxism" to murder 26 million Russians..), when it's clear that Human Nature is perfectly capable of doing evil without the help of "religion". It is my humble opinion that the author is misguided in this respect.

Based on my earlier readings of the Qu'ran, I've seen Christians and Jews referred to as fellow believers in the One True G-d (Allah), and that they are to be considered as part of the group of "Believers" (wherever you see that catchword, think "Judeo-Christians + Muslims"). Perhaps my assumptions are incorrect...

Are there any Freepers out there with in-depth study of the Qu'ran who can shed some light here?

:) ttt

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction." -Pascal

Well, he should have added ideology, particularly leftist assumed ideology. But I guess ideology as a word did not exist in Pascal's time.

Islam must go not because it is false but because it is destructive...

Exactly. Countless other religions are also false, but do not threaten anyone.

We need to call it for what it is. Cult(klt) n. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. The followers of such a religion or sect.

By comparison, the Old Testament accepts the virtually equal existence of non-Jews. They were governed within the Jewish nation by the Noahide Laws which are seven commandments similar to the Ten Commandments. The major differences are 1) that non-Jews are not required to worship the Jewish God, and 2) they are not to blaspheme God.

No way. He's got it all wrong -- he must have.

Does anyone really expect him to know more about Islam than our esteemed left-wing academics, politicians, actors, and media spokespersons?

Bump.

This is a good site to visit.
There is also a link somewhere on Free Republic to a 1995 documentary on the Jihad movement in America.

If I want to know about Catholicism, I talk to the Catholics.  If I want to know about Baptists, I talk to Baptists.  If I want to know about Islam, I talkt to Islamics.  Trying to learn about the religious beliefs of a people by turning to their enemies for information is dishonest - and yes, stupid.
