I think it's tactical nukes this time. A staggering rain of devistation has to be delivered to those who harbor these animals.

"...But what will the result be? I'm willing to bet more restrictions on freedom. More disarming of law-abiding citizens. For "safety."..." Bingo! Feinswiene is already talking about it. And she packs a .38 snub! What-a-country!....FRegards

Neither of those planes collided dead-center. And if they aren't skilled enough to collide with skyscrapers on their own, how are they skilled enough to coordinate with someone on the ground while moving at 600 or whatever mph?

What We as Americans Can Do
1) Pray
2) Give blood and whatever else the Red Cross calls for.
3) Support our military and law enforcement.
4) Put aside political differences and UNITE,
no matter what we think of what President Bush
should or shouldn't do, say or not say.
4a)Save the political discussions until AFTER the crisis is handled.
HUNT DOWN AND
EXECUTE THOSE RESPONSIBLE!
UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL
God Bless America!

Lean and mean is how they did it, and how they did it without setting off alarm bells in advance. "Minimalist" Absolutely agree, and think Freedom007's theory, while interesting, is a severe violation of Occam's Razor--way more complex than necessary. There's no major difficulty hitting a target as massive as the WTC with even modest pilot proficiency. If you watch the video, you'll notice the second WTC plane made a small, but noticeable last second "correction" to ensure a collision.
To: Freedom007
The planes already have a number of navigation systems, including GPS. So the terrorists would not need ground support at least not for navigation.

Canada was extremely helpfull; Novia Scotia allowed dozens of international planes to land in Canada so that we did not need to allow them near LAX.

To clarify the muddied gray-area thinkers, that is, devastation to the perpetrators of this WTC attack.

"Two of the men, whose passports were traced to the United Arab Emirates, were brothers, one of whom was a trained pilot, a source told the Herald, speaking on condition of anonymity." Gee, the US is selling 5 billion dollars worth of F-16's to this sh@thole country. Doesn't seem like a great idea under the circumstances.
To: Travis McGee
The minimalist approach worked and it means that tracking those who did the act will be significantly more difficult.I still expect they will find some tracks. Further, this approach explains their choice of aircraft. Fewer passengers than a 747 and less of a control problem.
Beyond that this should make for some real changes in the procedures for dealing with a hijacking. Cockpit crew must let the passengers and stewardesses endure their fate to possibly save those on the ground. Armed aircrew? CCW passengers only glasers or some other limited penetration round mandatory only. These are only initial ideas as to some counter measure that could be implemented.

A national concealed carry program called "the Skywatch program." Every police officer is automatically included (thus getting over that stupid shit of "I'm from Boston, can I carry in LA?") And gets an ID for it (yeah, I know alot of cops aren't as qualified as most ccw licensees.) Every member of the military who is side arm qualified (especially officers.) And anyone who has a local CCW can apply. They have to show proficiency and maintain with a _minimum_ of 200 rounds per year, yada yada. Then you go to the special booth, show your badge, show that your piece is unloaded and has a glazer mag inserted, and you go to your plane. No muss, no fuss and you can carry anything you want besides (therefore you don't have to worry about you pocket knife anymore.)
Terrorists could probably get one. Yeah? So what? Half the frequent flyers in the US would pick one up, just so they didn't have to hassle with the f**king metal detectors.

The terrorists use of the minimalist approach tells us many things. They avoided uncertain terrain, such as smuggling guns.
They stuck to what they KNEW they could EASILY do: sneak into the USA and buy plane tickets.
Our "open border" policy to all-comers is a fatal achilles heal. We need to tighten that up, or face this again and again.
And we need to get over our PC "Barney" attitude (I love, you, you love me, we're a happy family). The radical islamists, (and that is 80% of some countries) hate us and want to kill us. We need to stop them from entering, and kick out any that do not prove loyalty.

BINGO! You win the prize!!! Don't let people from Yemen, Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, etc. into the US-- I think Immigration/CIA needs to review files on all those from hostile nations (esp. via Canada) who entered country in past 5? years. IF we shore up our borders, then US Citizens won't have to abdicate FREEDOM!
To: bushwon,harpseal,Squantos,SevenDaysInMay
I agree.
Of course, it will mean overthrowing "PC" concepts, which will be a benefit in many other areas as well.
When the squishy birkenstock lefty crowd says "eww, you are a bigot, you are intolerant, you are profiling" say to them "Damn right I am! How many islamic terrorists are you hiding in YOUR basement, traitor?! This is WAR!! So shut up and sit down!!"
To: Travis McGee
"The radical islamists, (and that is 80% of some countries) hate us and want to kill us." There is an irrational quality to all this. What is the source of their animus, do you suppose? What is it that the US has done, specifically, to arouse such passion?
Is it all tied into our support for Israel? Amplified by our "deep pockets" stature?
Certainly, Islam has never been targeted by, or considered an enemy of, the United States. So, why the Jihad?
