Of course, it was the Iran war—though I don’t think people, including Vice President JD Vance, are fully putting their finger on why.
Fairly close to 100% of the electorate, whether they love or hate Donald Trump, understand him not as somebody to follow into a military campaign of his own impulsive choosing, unprovoked by any national emergency.
Though in his arrogance and presumption it would have been hard for any underling to put it to him, there was something else: the unique and sequined nature of his legitimacy.
His freakish rise in our politics is so much the reciprocal of the illegitimate and foolish machinations of his enemies. His very existence as president is an expression of domestic impasses and recriminations. A man with more self-knowledge would understand that foreign crusades aren’t licensed for such a president; they shouldn’t even have interested such a president.
Vice President Vance has been tagged with “disloyalty” for his indecently hurried tweet on Wednesday blaming the war for the midterm outcome. Mr. Trump himself is famously devoid of loyalty to anyone and anything, including the party he nominally heads, as will likely become apparent in the days and weeks ahead. That’s just the beginning of the real trouble.
If there had been a 9/11 or Pearl Harbor and the American people wanted and demanded action, of course, the story would have been different. But that wasn’t the case here and Mr. Trump knew it. He didn’t try rallying the country to his war. He knew he wouldn’t be able to.
Call it the necessary downside of Mr. Trump’s outsider act, his playing the bull in the china shop. His voters...

These pinheads would have rather been nuked (I certainly wouldn't miss them).
At least Trump has a shiny new ballroom he can sit in and watch his family go to jail because he thought Israel was more important than America.
Yeah. That or he knows something the rest of us don’t.
Trump did the right thing....after 47 years of being jerked around...no navy, no air force...
And finally....new routes are being created and Iran has been backed into a corner with the Blockade.
Trump is/was 100% right.
We fought in Nam for how long?? And how many thousands did WE lose?
It wasn't the war. It was the lying about the war. Then fall rolled around and folks have to start buying heating oil. Good God Almighty, Mr. President.
Not only did we not win the war, but POTUS gaslighted us for months on end. He sure can spin the blarney. How do you know Trump's lying? His lips are moving.
I’m so tired of the negativity here.
It doesn’t accomplish anything but to demoralize people.
I held my tongue, I was the good soldier. But for crying out loud, we lost Texas....TEXAS!
Trump did it knowing it could destroy him. He did it anyway. He didn’t walk away from the problem.
“At least Trump has a shiny new ballroom he can sit in and watch his family go to jail because he thought Israel was more important than America.”
Yes he was supposed to “make America great again”.
Tuesday’s election was bad but I’m worried about 2028.
What kind of war is this, Trump destroyed Iran’s ability to even wage war except for lobbing the occasional random missile which gets shot out of the sky. People were brainwashed washed into the “war and prices” narrative.
🔝🔝
Texas is full of hispanic people mad that Trump deported their friends.
You think going to war because Israel told you to and surrendering the election to the Dems because of it isn’t demoralizing. Right now the MAGA people, who opposed this misadventure from the beginning are sorting things out and seeing who is MAGA and who is Likud.
You should be. I can't imagine why anyone would expect different results. This country has been hoisted on the petard of a cheated election process.
I’m still MAGA. What about you?
"If you believe in his policies -- what he's advertising to be his policies -- he's the last person that could actually execute them and achieve them. He does not have the discipline, he does not have the ability for strategic thinking or linear thinking, or setting priorities, or how to get things done in the system." -- William Barr, 5/5/2023
The stupid Iran war wasn't even the start of this. The idiotic, inept rollout of the tariffs in April 2025 was the first sign that something was off the rails with this second Trump administration.
That was a pretty good assessment.
The initial premise go in was conservative - solve a problem like the IRGC instead of managing it and letting it fester.
Ultimately though it just disintegrated into the ‘deal no deal’ stalemate crap.
