Iran targeted US air defenses then hit aircraft and buildings on Mideast bases, AP analysis finds

WASHINGTON (AP) — Iran’s strikes on more than two dozen U.S. bases in the Middle East focused on early-warning systems before hitting aircraft and buildings, causing billions of dollars in equipment damage, according to an Associated Press analysis.

The AP independently verified damage to American targets using satellite imagery from multiple providers and spoke to four regional officials who were briefed or have firsthand knowledge of what was hit. The AP found that, through August, more than 115 drone or missile strikes claimed by Iran or Iranian-backed militias damaged or destroyed structures on 26 military bases and other sites with U.S. equipment.

The AP found that Iran initially focused its attacks on aircraft hangars and systems that detect incoming strikes, clearing the way for further strikes on warehouses, troop housing and more.

The damage has significantly reshaped the American foothold in the Middle East, with two regional officials saying the U.S. has moved many of its assets out of the Persian Gulf. That includes aircraft, air defense systems, communications systems and other equipment crucial to base operations, one of those officials said.

The impact of the damage raises questions about American defenses in the region as President Donald Trump considers new strikes after Tuesday’s midterm elections and Tehran has vowed major retaliation. A return to hostilities threatens additional costly damage to bases, which would heighten uncertainty about whether the United States will choose to rebuild its bases and equipment in the region when the war ends.

Do we even have 26 bases in that area?
“...and other sites with U.S. equipment.” The catch-all phrase.

This is over several months time period, not all recent.

Most of the Iranian attacks have been in Kuwait, while U.S. sites in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates also have been targeted.

Do these officials have names?

AP - “After AP analysis of data the US has been defeated and is leaving the area. Iran wins.”

So sayeth the AP.

There's also the recently submitted Pentagon report on the costs associated with the Iran war, but this story goes further by taking a look at recent satellite images. I suppose we'll find out whether their analysis is correct if/when Trump starts another bombing campaign, or when Congress starts holding hearings on the matter.

My feeling is if Iran wants nuke weapons, give them some. Who is to say explosions were not self-induced. Pity, but those things happen.

Meanwhile bargaining with Persians is like bargaining with Commies. They view it as a step to their final goal. We view those bargains as the final goal.

The US milt definitely took some losses from Iran , mostly in the opening weeks of the military campaign

They were getting very detailed ISR information from China and Russia and so Iran knew exactly where to hit

We took some hard losses but it could have been much worse

In many ways, the attacks could end up being a blessing in disguise

Our military has spent too much time fighting low tech insurgents in Afghanistan and we have lost respect for what a capable and determined adversary can accomplish

More importantly , force protection has been a critically neglected by our military leadership and by Congress and this neglect has left us vulnerable

Hopefully this is an eye opener for our leadership that leads them to take force protection more seriously and make the critical changes that need addressing

It doesn’t bother me when the liberal media reports on negative events like this. The problem is when they don’t report on key facts that support the US and NATO positions on Iran. When they report on nuclear negotiations with Iran, they repeatedly leave out the key verified facts that Iran has enriched a large amount of Uranium up to 60% purity, and the only possible use for 60% enriched Uranium is to build nuclear weapons. The liberal media rarely mentions these critically important facts. Instead they just repeat the same lies from Iran and write something like: “The US and Israel strongly suspect that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons. Iran denies these accusations.” They they just leave it at that.

Leaving out these key facts about all the Uranium that Iran has enriched to 60% intentionally misleads their readers. Liberal news media has this crazy, self-destructive anti-American and anti-Western bias in their reporting, which they really need to drop immediately. The liberal media needs to start reporting the whole truth about the extremely dangerous Iranian nuclear weapons program.
