California Democrats slammed Donald Trump after he joked the US should let Iran 'take out' Los Angeles and San Diego at a rally in Nebraska on Monday.
The President campaigned in Grand Island alongside GOP Senator Pete Ricketts, who is running against an independent candidate backed by national Democrats.
Trump was defending the Iran War and explaining that higher gas prices - which he hopes to lower with an Executive Order expanding access to tax-exempt diesel - are a small price to pay to keep Iran from having a nuclear weapon.
'And again, remember, with the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,' he said.
He then quipped that a nuclear Iran 'could take out a city.'
'Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego,' he added, as the crowd cheered and applauded.
'This is a very small price to pay, and it's gonna be over with very soon. It's essentially almost over with,' Trump added.
Both the mayors of Los Angeles and San Diego ripped Trump for suggesting he was joking about Iran taking out either of their cities.
'The President of the United States suggested that a foreign government attack Los Angeles. His statements against our city are dangerous and could potentially compromise our safety,' Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass told The Daily Mail.
'The role of a president is to protect the country, not to actively threaten it and encourage attacks on American lives.'
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, a Democrat like Bass, added: 'San Diego is not collateral damage. We are not expendable. And we are never a "small price to pay." Keep our city out of your reckless war talk.'

But as long as Trump enjoys his trolling, and his hardcore fans are entertained by it, I guess that's what's important.
Red China cowed Clinton into submission by threatening to turn LA into a sea of flames.
And with a five megaton device as their go-to choice of warhead, they can most certainly do it.
Iran might sail a bomb into LA harbor but it won’t be nearly as big.
Bad day to be in San Pedro, though.

We sure as heck don't want anybody compromising the safety of Angelenos.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, a Democrat like Bass, added: 'San Diego is not collateral damage. We are not expendable. And we are never a "small price to pay." Keep our city out of your reckless war talk.'
Lighten up Francis.
That was an unhelpful statement on the part of Trump. But he’s not going to change. I would have advised Trump back in 2024 to get himself a consigliere, a wise senior adviser. Someone to act as a filter.
But Trump did not contact me back in 2024. Oh, well. I wish him luck regardless.
🙂
Doesn’t San Diego have significant military installations?
Wish Trump would stop giving entertaining, self agrandizing performances complete with jokes and simply start in no uncertain terms inform the American people the monumental harm that will come if for whatever reason they empower the lunatic Democrats.
Don’t forget...NY was attacked...don’t take anything for granted. Trump’s message to all.....wake up....they want to kill us....all of us.
San Diego? Why not Portland? Tina Kotek would have been ecstatic.
Artificial news. Why do you come here and act as the left’s mouthpiece? I hope the President doesn’t even respond to mouthbreathers such as yourself that take everything out of context.
Elections in California are rigged anyway.
He’s been relatively restrained the last 7-10 days, which has been helpful to the Republicans. But he can’t help himself. We’ve all joked about California falling off into the Pacific, but he’s the President, trying to navigate his Party through a difficult mid-terms. These types of statements are unhelpful. But the usual fan club here will applaud him loudly. He would do well to just be quiet most of the time.
Not at all. Trump chose to make a public statement. It's not "artificial news" to respond to a President's public pronouncements.
Trump ate breakfast!
OMFG!
Triggered!!!!!
“Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego,’ he added, as the crowd cheered and applauded.”
We are in a civil war and they are the enemy so yeah cheers.
One nuke on Minneapolis and Minnesota is a red state
One nuke on Denver and Colorado is a red state
One nuke on Portland and Oregon is a red state
One nuke on Seattle and Washington is a red state
One nuke on Chicago and Illinios is a red state
One nuke on NYC and New York is a red state
One nuke on Philly and Pennsylvania is a red state
One nuke on Occupied Northern Virginia and Virginia is a red state
One nuke on Detroit and Michigan is a red state
One nuke on Milwaukee and Wisconsin is a red state
If you're going to use a nuke, hitting any one of these places would help America far more than nuking LA would.
Shove it you dirty pig. The artificial part is your leftist spin on it. Now play ignorant like you didn’t hear the whole statement.
Agreed. The mouth without a governor.
“Well, that’s going to help Republican Steve Hilton...”
It is unfortunate that Trump does not have the benefit of guidance from some posters, who take liberal rags for the gospel, after all this time.
They are lying. I watched the speech.
Trump was only making the point of what might happen if Iran is allowed nuclear capability if America does nothing.
