US secretary of state Marco Rubio has said unequivocally that a foreign actor was involved in the suspected UK bomb plot at RAF Fairford, hours after the five suspects arrested close to the airbase were released on bail.
“What could have happened in the UK over the weekend is a very serious situation,” Rubio said in an interview with Fox News on Monday evening, adding that it “clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor.”
Rubio provided no evidence for his claims.
The five men, all British nationals from London in their early 20s, were detained early on Sunday after police were alerted by a local farmer about three white vans driving towards RAF Fairford, a British base that houses US bombers that fly missions against Iran.
They were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and preparing an act of terrorism, with an Iranian link a key line of inquiry.
Their release on police bail suggests detectives believe it is unlikely they were on the brink of a mass casualty attack by exploding a bomb close to the base, sources said.

Sounds like a false-flag operation that got caught by locals. As soon as MI5/6 got involved everybody got set free. If we never hear about it again, we can be certain that’s what it was.

This seems to be a common statement in articles when a member of the Trump administration asserts something. Never see it when Democrats assert something, regardless of how outrageous.

With the price of gas, why would 5 guys of similar age who do NOT fit the description of traditional British lads drive 3 completely empty vans to a rural area near an RAF base and park the vehicles in the middle of the road where a farmer cannot pass through? Why would they set out across a field?
Was there anything in the area that might have fit into 3 vans ? Did a herd of sheep call them out to pick up three broken kitchen appliances ? Were they planning to repossess some naughty farmers’ milk machines for lack of payment? Were they gay guys planning to screw each other in the back of the empty vans while watching the jets take off at sun rise?
If they weren’t up to anything illegal, then what are the charges and why was bail set at all?

The farmer and his wife, who originally reported them, said that there were more than five. They reported 8 to 10. I could understand letting 1 or 2 of them out on bail and then tracking them to see if they would lead the police to the others involved. But I don’t understand letting all of them out on bail.
