Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao took to social media to report no one from the U.S. Navy’s elite Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron will be reprimanded after a low-altitude pass went viral in Florida on Wednesday.
“Flight debrief complete. No reprimands. No firings. No problem. That’s the sound of Freedom! Semper fi and Hooyah,” Cao said in a social media post that included a brief video clip of the jet zooming over the beach.
Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is encouraging low-altitude military flyovers.
The video shows the Blue Angels flying so low over a crowded beach in Pensacola on Wednesday that chairs and tents went flying and sand kicked up.
The U.S. Navy said in a statement shortly afterward that it was “conducting a thorough safety review.” Then on Thursday morning, a host of Trump administration officials heaped praise on the maneuver.
“The flyovers will continue until morale improves,” Hegseth wrote on his personal X account, without elaborating.

The Pentagon’s top spokesman, Sean Parnell, wrote “Carry on Patriots” on social media alongside a photo showing a Blue Angels jet over the heads of beachgoers.
The White House tweeted a cartoon showing people on a beach taking photos of a Blue Angels jet, with the words “Freedom” and “It’s okay to love America.”

Pensacola is the “Cradle of Naval Aviation.”
If you don’t like naval aviation, don’t go there.
I LOVE Secretary Hegseth’s reaction.
Isn’t it great when manly-man grownups are in charge?
Well, the Secretary of the Navy is Hung
After giving the Apache pilots a pass for something similar, he couldn’t very well have done anything else.
I love it!
Definitely ‘nads of platinum!
The pilots were pushing the envelope a bit with the low pass but no big deal
In fact, some good comes out this because our military has become so risk aversive and safety conscious it’s becoming a huge net negative
You treat treat people who’s job description is to fight and die like scared little children
Karen’s complained I assume

Wonder who whined about this - could not have been a regular air show goer. Those that see the Blues regularly are used to low flyovers. It’s part of the show and awesome to see (and hear and feel).
And you know this how, exactly?
I go to Ft. Walton Beach usually every year. I love to see the daily flyovers from Eglin there. Everybody loves to watch them.
I know they’re not Blue Angels, but it’s exciting anyway.
I didn’t see a single umbrella go flying. Karen liars , piss off.
Hesgeth and Cao responded just right.
GO NAVY!!!
