To the Americans:
I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States.
And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness:
You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence.
This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns.
Success is equated with exploitation. Ambition is looked upon with contempt.
This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom.
But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated.
This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet.
And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America:
Thank God for the United States.
Thank God for the wisdom of its founders. Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man. Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners.
Long may your admirable country dominate the world.
Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states.
May your two and a half centuries of unparallelled success be just the beginning.
Your country is the light of the world, and the city on the hill.
Thank God for the USA.
Happy 250th.
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson

In the movie “Young Washington” this theme is apparent pretty early on. Young George is ambitious and confident that he can be successful. Yet he doesn’t start out rich, has no real special connections, has not attended fine schools. The British think he’s crazy. Within the stratified world of British society, there is no real way for him to move up. He ought to know his place and accept the fact that he is a nobody. But Washington chafes at this from the start and clearly wants to live in a world with liberty, where a man can forge his own path and rise up to the level of his own making.
Thanks for posting.
Good to know that Dr. Peterson is alive, healthy and living in the USA!
His appreciation for the USA is most welcome!
The nation was founded on ideals that had to be demanded, for there were problems that existed with the start as a colony of a now foreign nation.
The trials & tribulations have been many, and oddly enough, the closer we get to the ideals the Founder's had intended for this nation, the more combataive the citizans become, because our politician's decided what was best for them, and not what was best for the country, so they kept watering down the cohesiveness of this nation.
Time to pause the immigration, and either get peoplr to assimulate, or revoke their citizenship, if they choose not to assimulate.
Thanks for posting. To many ‘hateriots’ out there. Ungrateful, full of contempt. Just because you’re a U.S. citizen, doesn’t make you an American. Pretty obvious to see it in them.
😊👍🇺🇸
Amen! Thank God. And George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin, and ...
.
Thank you for posting, it is very good to see this coming from Mr. Peterson. He is an international treasure and intellect. His health has been a real concern and it is reassuring to see something this current from him.
Quick ping so I can send this to others later.

The Law of Jante.
The Ten Rules of Jante
The Law of Jante consists of ten rules that reflect its core principles:
1 You are not to think you are anything special.
2 You are not to think you are as good as we are.
3 You are not to think you are smarter than we are.
4 You are not to imagine yourself better than we are.
5 You are not to think you know more than we do.
6 You are not to think you are more important than we are.
7 You are not to think you are good at anything.
8 You are not to laugh at us.
9 You are not to think anyone cares about you.
10 You are not to think you can teach us anything.
An additional eleventh rule, known as the “penal code of Jante,” states: “Perhaps you don’t think we know a few things about you?”
Cultural Impact
Jante’s Law reflects the egalitarian nature of Scandinavian societies, where individual achievements are often downplayed in favor of collective success. This cultural attitude can lead to a sense of community but may also suppress personal ambition and individuality. Critics argue that while it fosters humility, it can also hinder personal growth and expression.
Thabk you sir, I could listen to this every day and still want more!
I do not possess that gift. When I get angry, my emotion takes over and I cannot think logically and clearly, often to my detriment.
Dr. Peterson retains that capability to think and is very sharp.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this encounter, I relate this here for your amusement and enjoyment. The entire interview is worth watching, but I want to focus on the part of this interview that encapsulates why I admire Jordan Peterson as much as I do.
This link below (and my transcript) is from his January 16, 2018 debate with Cathy Newman (regarding the mythical gender pay gap and other feminist and Leftist "issues") where he totally skewers her, and he so spectacularly, ideologically, philosophically, and intellectually completely undresses her in the interview when she tried to execute an adversarial "gotcha" on him and he brilliantly turned the tables on this typical Leftist tactic!
At about the 23:00 minute mark, he turned it on her so completely that all she looked like the Fembots destroyed by the exuded sexual power of Austin Powers that they couldn't compute and self-destructed.
Jordan Peterson went on this show, into the Lion's Den (so to speak) and engaged in debate with a Leftist who thought she was qualified to skewer him. He did not falter, and to me, this is the greatest on video logical and intellectual demolition of an opponent I have ever seen. For her to surrender so completely means, to me, that she has at least a shred of intellectual honestly, which I give her credit for. Most Leftists would just bull on as if that point had never been made. She showed she was, at the very least, trying to engage in discourse, which I can respect:

CATHY NEWMAN: Let me move on to another debate that’s been very controversial for you. Um, and this is, you got in trouble for refusing to call trans men and women by their preferred personal pronouns-
JORDAN PETERSON: No, it’s not actually true. I got in trouble because I said that I would not follow that compelled speech dictats of the federal and provincial governments. I actually never got in trouble for not calling anyone anything. I…
CATHY NEWMAN: Right. You wouldn’t follow the change of law...
JORDAN PETERSON: Not once it was law. No. No.
CATHY NEWMAN: …which was designed to outlaw discrimination…
JORDAN PETERSON: Well, that’s what they said it was designed to do.
CATHY NEWMAN: Okay. You cited freedom of speech in that. Why should your right to freedom of speech trump a trans-person’s right not to be offended?
JORDAN PETERSON: Because in order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive. I mean, look at the conversation right now. You know, like you’re certainly willing to risk offending me in the pursuit of truth. Why should you have the right to do that? It’s being rather uncomfortable. (at this point, Jordan Peterson has a slight smile on his face, because he knows that she has logically hoisted herself very publicly on her own petard, and there is no escape for her)
CATHY NEWMAN: Well, I’m very glad that I’ve put you on the spot.
JORDAN PETERSON: Well, I’m glad you get my point. You’re doing what you should do which is digging a bit to see what the Hell’s going on, and that is what you should do. But you’re exercising your freedom of speech to certainly risk offending me, and that’s fine. I think, more power to you, as far as I am concerned.
CATHY NEWMAN: So, you haven’t sat there and…(she looks searchingly up at the ceiling in thought, realizing she has walked right into the logical corner he has painted for her, her eyes bliink, she closes her eyes and exhales loudly as she realizes there is no chance to extricate herself from this trap Jordan Peterson has cleverly laid for her, and an involuntary slight smile appears on her face which stays there as she drops her face, her eyebrows arch ) Right. I’m just trying to...still trying to work that out…I mean…(she is still looking down at her notepad, her mouth hangs open for an extended period of time as her eyes blink several times, then she exhales, as her mouth closes and she looks down and away, her eyes fixed on a non-existent source of salvation. She looked completely like a landed fish.)
JORDAN PETERSON: (softly) Hah. Gotcha.
CATHY NEWMAN: (points her finger straight up, as if to award a point)You have got me. You have caught me. I’m trying to work that through my head. (to her credit, smiles good naturedly, still looking down and away). Yeah, yeah…it took a while. It took a while. (again, to her credit, she looks up and breaks out in a full smile of abject surrender)
JORDAN PETERSON: It did. It did. Yeah.
There is absolutely no shame in being owned by Jordan Peterson in a fact based intellectual discussion. And I give her credit. Instead of trying to bluster her way out, she openly admitted it and she took her beating like a man...(snicker)
Freedom in the United Kingdom? With the UK Thought Police jailing people for online posts, it appears that the only guaranteed freedom is the freedom to be invaded.
But as I get older even the verbal has rescind considerably.
He did have a breakdown of sorts whem he experienced a severe medical and psychological crisis involving benzodiazepine addiction and subsequent withdrawal. In 2019, he developed a dependency on clonazepam prescribed for anxiety, which led to agonizing withdrawal symptoms including uncontrollable restlessness, severe anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
To manage the withdrawal, Peterson underwent a medically induced coma in Russia in late 2019, during which his blood was cleaned via plasmapheresis. He suffered from akathisia, a movement disorder characterized by intense restlessness, which persisted for years and was described by his family as a psych-med-induced neurological injury. His wife, Tammy Peterson, stated in 2026 that he remains in significant pain and has no plans to return to public life.
So, now you understand what caused his emotional issues.
Which just proves that even smart people can be seduced by drugs, believing perhaps that perscription medicine is not addicting. No one has complete knwledge.
Sadly, some peopl seem toeither \possess no knowledge, or they are completly devoid of common sense.
Greast post BTW, enjoyed it.
I have been watching a lot of the Uncommon Knowledge duscussions, which I find not only informative but entertaining as well.
In my younger days, I was extremely profane and fit to bursts of anger that I would express against physical objects such as a tool or car part, but never, even verbally, against another person. I grappled with that my entire life.
But I have learned, through diligent attention, to moderate myself. It hasn’t been easy and I still fail, but I am far better, and have pretty much conquered my profanity.
Glad you liked the video.
As for Dr. Peterson, I recall he was straightforward in the past about issues with depression, but he showed how difficult it is to completely defeat it.
I will check the Uncommon Knowledge discussions, thanks for that reference.
