Even some of Donald Trump’s own supporters have admitted they are underwhelmed by the president’s self-hyped Great American State Fair in D.C.
Trump’s 16-day spectacle on the National Mall, which opened on June 25, was intended to showcase all 50 states as the centerpiece of the Trump administration’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
But several states led by Democratic governors have boycotted the event, while others have opted out due to the high cost to taxpayers or have not been able to secure businesses willing to sponsor a booth. Several musicians also pulled out of planned performances over concerns that the event had become too political.

Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of people there.
Probably for a couple reasons.
The 4th is on Saturday and if I were there I'd be at the Smithsonian, Arlington and a dozen other places.
It's pretty dang'd hot there so being inside a building with air conditioning seems like something I'd probably prefer until Saturday.
Oh, and I've done it a few times on the week of Independence Day.
I only go the mall on July 4th and sit on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for best seats.
Even "A Great American Fair" wouldn't be enough to drag me there....
Just look at the cam from the Washington Memorial.
There really ain’t many people around and as usual all the street around the park are closed except the freeway on the left side coming from Arlington

Even at the Statue of Liberty there doesn’t seem to be as many people as I recall being there

It is 101 degrees in Manhattan so, even if I were skinny, like I was back then, I’d be inside somewhere.....like MOMA....
It has been terribly advertised. I have heard a couple of radio spots but that’s about it.
Just got back Tuesday from five days there. Seeing my son who works in DC and seeing the sights.
Not a huge crowd this past weekend but it rained every day.
No, it wasn’t super crowded and the event wasn’t huge. But it is just something to commemorate the 250th. The fountains around town have been cleaned up. The city looks better than it has in years.
It’s not a worlds fair. It was never meant to be. Just a little acknowledgement.
But I didn’t even see a lot of families there, a lot of Trump hats, and restaurants and hotels were busy!
Old Ebbet’s Grill and Butterworths were both pretty crowded!
I DID see a lot of families there. Got switched up mid sentence!
Here is a Times Square Cam
not many people

It’s too dang hot....
I can tell there aren’t many people out and about from looking at the cams around town and Manhattan.
I wouldn’t go anywhere near the Lincoln Memorial until Saturday as there are too many other important and historical things to see before the 4th
I wonder if we will hear about chaos from Reagan National on Sunday?..../s
Was the cost really burdensome to any state?
This was our one feeble effort to commemorate the 250th. If anybody wants it to fail or works to make it fail or rejoices at its supposed failure, to hell with them.
If the people don’t want to come out to the Great American State Fair, nobody’s going to stop them.
I just heard about this “so called fiasco” this morning.
My 1st thought was “Why would I go to fair when I could so many other things?”
Air and Space is always the 1st thing I want to see....Always...
Then the American History Museum.
Feeble how?
It’s 100 at my boys places in Va...
It’s 98 degrees down there now; we hit 100 an hour ago here (in MD just outside of DC)
I don’t think that’s going to change much before Saturday. I’m afraid there will be a lot of folks getting sick if they venture down in this weather.
There’s a chance this will happen every year, just as there’s always a chance the cold will force the Inauguration indoors. DC has nutsy weather most of the year.
By the way, ignore the Left. They tried to ruined Freddy's visit to USA.
Once Vanilla Ice hits the stage, the temperature will drop and millions of Americans will be there.
It’s freakin’ +100 degrees right now. What do you expect?
Are there ANY Trump supporters in DC? And how many people in the country actually pay good money to go to DC on vacation? Especially a summer vacation during a heat wave? I am a a fan of Trump but have absolutely zero desire to EVER visit any city on the east coast. Especially DC.
It’s 100 degrees and muggy as hell in DC. I cannot imagine a situation where I would willingly travel to DC in July. It has zero to do with Trump. It has to be one of the most uncomfortable places in the US.
It’s not that bad every year. Sure, we have heat and a lot of humidity; but most of the time it’s bearable. We get a year now and then with a long severely hot spell like this, just as we get the occasional very icy Winter.
I think it was Truman Capote who once wrote that DC was ‘Siberia in the Winter, and Sumatra in the Summer’; and that foreign diplomats received hardship pay for being stationed here.
But it’s not really that bad. Fall is the best time to visit, and there are glorious days some Summers after a hurricane has come up the coast...
