Two direct descendants of prominent abolitionists reflected on the legacy of slavery and the challenges facing Black Americans during a visit to WHYY on Juneteenth.
Kevin Douglass Greene, a descendant of Frederick Douglass, said he has little sympathy for people who believe they have lost rights or privileges, noting that African Americans spent generations fighting for basic rights and opportunities.
“I can’t feel sorry for … certain populations in the United States [who] felt that they lost their rights and privileges. Just think about the amount of time that it took for African Americans in this country to achieve those rights and privileges,” Douglass Greene said.
Douglass Greene said the glass ceiling that has long obstructed advancement for Black Americans has been covered in cement.

Booker T Washington had better ideas.
I celebrate June 19th for the execution of those two communist spies, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, in 1953.
Racist, racist, racist, .....always racist BS!
Brown was a opportunist and a murderer
John Brown directly caused the civil war
As did Nat Turner!
Both actions created so much fear that it removed the ground for compromise.
Special “rights” are not civil rights, they violate the concept of equal protection (treatment) under the law.
Please elucidate, how?
“We shall overcome...?”
As usual, race baiting and fundraising. It’s what Socialist Democrats DO.
John Brown’s body lies a-mouldering in the grave;
John Brown’s body lies a-mouldering in the grave;
John Brown’s body lies a-mouldering in the grave!
His soul’s marching on!
CHORUS.
Glory, halle – hallelujah! Glory, halle – hallelujah!
Glory, halle – hallelujah! his soul’s marching on!
One quote of so many:
“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”
― Booker T. Washington
For some reason, on the list of all the things that matter and concern me, this one does not even show up.
The race baiting poverty pimps and those of the race that have the natural chip on their shoulder will never let racism die.
The problem with getting special rights is that when you are treated normally you think you’re being discriminated against.
I saw two stories the other night about Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson...I guess probably Friday night because of the “holiday”. The blacks projected a much different image then, a much BETTER image - than anything we’ve seen in recent years from the majority of them. In spite of the trouble Jackie Robinson had breaking into MLB, there wasn’t animosity; just joy and admiration. Don’t have the words to describe it exactly but what I saw/felt was no ranting/raving/protests/riots from the black population that it took so long but lots of pride and appreciation...
MLK, Jr., had it right and said it right but it seems that after that speech, “THEY” decided to get angry about EVERYTHING!
Wasn’t John Brown a murderer?
Frederick Douglass was a true American hero.
Big time.
And a traitor.
He WAS, that’s right. John brown was also guilty of treason.
