The Trump administration on Friday auctioned off rights to drill in a pristine wildlife refuge in Alaska, but the lease sale attracted only two bidders on a few tracts of land.
Of the about 60 tracts of land opened up for leasing by the Trump administration, only five received bids.

How come you guys aren’t posting any Platner stories?
Pristine is a lot of cr**. It's a wilderness...The wells will not make a dent.
What about ANWR? Is that it or is it one spot the size of DFW airport?
They know it will be reversed by a judge or the next administration.
Only 2 bidders? Of the 60 tracts of land only 5 received bids?
the market is telling us something.
They know the Dumocrats will not allow them to drill those leases, they despise oil and autos.
Depends on what/who the 2 bidders were.
Plus bidding opened on Friday, how long is the bidding for?
There are only two bidders capable of developing the sites
We once had a Freeper petroleum engineer who did in fact avtually develop those kind of sites. I wish he were still around to keep us posted
You are spamming threads with that, what in the world does it mean?
Biden was run out of town. The new Sheriff didn’t lower fees and regulations?
It takes years to develop a site to production. Who would want to do that if the next administration would shut them down?
The midterms will be an indicator

Overall duration: Federal and state lease sales in Alaska's North Slope/Arctic regions are a recurring process. They won't “end” soon due to statutory requirements (especially for ANWR), ongoing nominations, and energy policy goals.
However:
High activity in proven/reserve areas like NPR-A could persist as long as economics favor it (tied to oil prices, technology, and global demand).
ANWR-specific auctions are front-loaded by mandates but could slow if bids remain weak or legal/environmental pushback succeeds.
Development timelines are long: Even successful leases often take years (or decades) for exploration, permitting, and production due to remoteness, climate challenges, and regulations.
This is based on current (as of June 2026) policies and sales. Future administrations, lawsuits, oil markets, or legislation could change the pace. For the absolute latest on specific sales, check the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska oil and gas leasing page.
Sometimes stuff you have been holding onto is not worth what you think it is worth. Those “Road Show” episodes on PBS are full of people finding out that grandma’s couch is not really a collector’s item.
This!

I agree with you to a point, but every place a company plans to be driving, placing equipment or drilling upon HAS to be dug down a way, insulated then covered with a stable medium of gravel (or it’s equivalent).
Failure to insulate properly will cause the permafrost to melt and everything will end up sunk in water for decades to come...
Not too many companies can invest the time and money before the oil is retrieved and piped to southernish Alaska.
Don’t know
The potential bidders know if the Dems return to power, their leases will be confiscated without compensation. Too big of a risk to buy.
