Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has submitted an official letter of resignation to the Office of the Supreme Leader, a source familiar with the matter told Iran International.
In the letter sent on Sunday, Pezeshkian stressed that the president and the government have effectively been excluded from major and vital decision-making processes in the country, and that the vacuum created by this situation has enabled hardline factions within the IRGC to take control of affairs, the source said.
Pezeshkian added that under such circumstances he is unable to run the government and carry out his legal responsibilities, and for that reason has requested to step down immediately.
It is not yet clear whether Mojtaba Khamenei will accept the president's resignation, but the contents of the letter point to a deep and unprecedented rift at the highest levels of power.

Translation: Please IDF / US Forces don't kill me. Remove the IRGC and I will be here to negotiate afterwards.
Hey, who’s in charge around here anyway...
I’m honestly surprised he’s lasted this long. I thought he would have long been assassinated by now.
Eggs act lee! Sadly we don’t seem to be able to eradicate the irgn lead rats.
It’s coming
<Please IDF / US Forces don’t kill me. <
Either that or please IRGC don’t kill me.
It looks like Trump might end up negotiating (or trying to negotiate) not with one person, but with a whole lot of different IRGC commanders. And they’re located all over the place.
Good luck with that.
It seems you can judge Iranian leaders’ radicalism politics by the length of their facial hair.
Doubt it. The IRGC leadership is too numerous and entrenched to eradicate completely.
More accurate translation: maybe killing the guys we were already in the middle of negotiating with was a bad idea.
(Just maybe.)
Iran’s negotiating intransigence and Israel’s major new military operation in Lebanon shows this isn’t going to end any time soon. Trump has managed to create his own very Iranian Hostage Crisis and is looking more like Carter with every day that passes. Brilliant.
This is what Prez Trump has had to deal with. He is probably trying to figure out who might be running the show there like everyone else! That’s why he’ll say something that sounds positive and then no good fruit results.
It’s almost as if the Iranian’s are going out of their way to make things as difficult and confusing as possible.....but that couldn’t be.....could it? 🤔
But I think what happened is that President Trump got too ambitious, and the goals of the operation became associated with regime change. The rhetoric was all over the place, and we now seem to be stuck in the situation from which it is going to be very difficult to extricate ourselves. I think we lack the military resolve, and perhaps even the munitions, necessary to truly Force Iranian capitulation.
I do think that an embargo/blockade against Iran would work eventually, but whether or not this whole thing is wrapped up in time for the election is a very open issue at this point. And if it is still ongoing, I think that could easily make the difference in control of Congress.
Negotiating with the lunatic Muslims in Iran is a fools errand.
The “Supreme Leader” hasn’t been seen alive in months, iirc.
The IRGC is the ultimate power in Iran, with a figurehead cleric. It’s as if you put the top elite power brokers in the US in one room - you’d have key members of congress and the administrative state, CEOs of major corporations plus all the banking and financial leaders - all under one umbrella.
IRGC has run things since 1979. When it’s convenient they allow people like this “President” to execute their orders, but he’s basically a token. Kind of like a team mascot.
Oh, please, Br'er Fox! Don't throw me in that briar patch!
It's a trap. IRGC wants their war, they've been getting ready for this for 40 years.
🚬🛢💥🇺🇸
LoL, Sounds like Spotswoode
It’s not unlike Imperial Japan, where Hirohito was the figurehead, and rival factions competed with each other for power.
