Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) on Monday signed into law a bill eliminating tax exemptions for multiple organizations connected to the Confederacy.
Democrats in the Virginia House and Senate passed HB167 with vote totals of 62-35 and 21-17, respectively, earlier this year. The bill specifically removes the Virginia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Confederate Memorial Literary Society, among other similar groups, from the list of organizations exempt from state property taxes.
The UDC, a nonprofit, was founded in 1894 by women “seeking to honor their family members and ancestors” who served in the Confederate military or contributed to the Southern war effort, its website states.

However, donations to the Klan and Neo Nazi groups are still tax deductible, so long as the donation is made through the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center).
Well does that mean she will do the same thing for Democrat groups?
Sounds like a bill of attainder.

They wouldn’t have you in the Ma-FIA!
One doubts that she's in any way a happy or contented human.
That IS a Democrat group.
She is such a bitch.
Big time.
My Grandmother was a member of the DAR Daughters of the American Revolution. I can also be a member. The Confederates lost. Slavery lost.
For once I agree with Spamburger, the traitor.
Virginia’s Rebellion Has Officially Begun
As RedState’s own Ward Clark reported Monday, one such official, Commonwealth’s Attorney Ryan Mehaffey of Spotsylvania County, alerted the county sheriff that “assault weapons” ban going into effect on July 1 is “unconstitutional and cannot be lawfully enforced.” Furthermore, said Mehaffey, “historical tradition and case law precedent” require Virginians to arm themselves “for common defense.”

80/20 is now 95/05.
Viewpoint discrimination lawsuit coming. You can’t condition tax exempt status based on your dislike of the groups message.
There is a Confederate group.
It’s called the modern Democrat party.
It continues with secessionist actions like physical opposition to federal immigration enforcement, something they agreed to at the time of the signing of the Constitution.
“You can’t condition tax exempt status based on your dislike of the groups message.”
Unless those groups were at some point granted a carve out or special tax exempt status based solely on their ideology.
No, but its a clear free speech violation
Its a shame that the Democrats have to politicize everything. The irony is that the Democrats gave special tax and other breaks to real Confederate groups from roughly 1866 through the 1960s. Then the Dems did a 180 and now penalize anything that even remotely looks like a “Confederate” group even if it is just a Civil War heritage group that gets the same tax break as any other historical society. Just make one rule and apply it evenly. Stop trying to score points.
No, because they are on the right side of history in her mind.
I do hope this is challenged legally. Also, I think tax exempt status is determined on a Federal level but don’t quote me on that.
