On Friday's CNN This Morning, host Audie Cornish gave Rep. James Walkinshaw (D-Va.) free rein to lecture Republicans on the evils of partisan redistricting, complete with hyperbolic comparisons to Jim Crow poll taxes and literacy tests.
The guest warned that GOP moves in the South would backfire, as blue states could retaliate by wiping out Republican districts on the West Coast: "Republicans are gonna come to regret it... We can have a West Coast where there's not a single Republican district. That can be done."
Nice Republican districts you got there — wouldn’t want to see nuthin’ happen to them!
It took real chutzpah for Virginia Democrat Walkinshaw (who's been in office for just seven months) to condemn Republican redistricting. Virginia, under newly-elected Democrat Gov. Abigail Spanberger, just pushed through a mid-decade redistricting referendum in April 2026 designed to flip four Republican-held congressional seats and turn the state from competitive (6D-5R) to a near-Democratic lock (10D-1R).
The Democrat gerrymander has now been overturned by Virginia's Supreme Court.

Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
Well, the dems are the experts on all that.
California has 53 seats but only 9 Republicans. Given 50/50 odds the chance of that happening randomly is 75757 to one. In the Northeast many states have zero Representation of Republicans. Dems are just angry Republicans are finally fighting fire with fire.
It’s a repulsive political trick, something that the Convention of the States should address. I don’t care (I do but..) what the outcome of elections would be with impartial congressional districts but eliminating this farce would be cold for the country.
Republicans aren’t supposed to maximum warfare. (Stompy feet)
Having politicians pick their voters rather than voters picking them is exactly what I expect from politicians. The sad truth is the kind of person who wants to become a politician is usually a scumbag, the kind of person you'd least want to give any power. The beauty of the American system is that it was set up so that the scumbags completed with each other for power.
Jim Crow, Nazi, fascist, King, whatever. We/won.
Mark Finklestein who is credited with creating this article has within it a sentence that states “The Constitution establishes a REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY.” Not ONCE in the Constitution is the word Democracy used. This is/was intentional to avoid tyranny and possible instability (cue the democratic party.) What we have is a Constitutional Republic. How do you reach people that are ignorant of the political framework our forefathers established when they constantly deny/omit what the truth is? Keep your powder dry.
Obama and Biden had to pick up the fumble Hillary dropped and the VA democrats are still holding tight to the McAuliffe Carville playbook to the death.
Jim Crow was a Democrat creation.
Democrats were responsible for Jim Crow laws.
Democrats are always projecting
The hypocrisy or ignorance of Rep. Walkinshaw (D) is the fact that his party, the democrat party, created, supported and defended Jim Crow laws. Those who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 - were southern DEMOCRATS.
In the spirit of inclusiveness, respect and civility shouldn’t it be James Crow?
In the spirit of unity I give you: Jimmy Crow.
Notice how when Democrats don’t get what they want, the first thing they do is threaten. Whether it be riots, redistricting, “reaping the whirlwind” or, that is their go to action
Jimmie boy must be especially stupid, more than normal commie trash, to threaten to gerrymander in the West since the SCOTUS has already ruled that if you use race in that process (like CaCaLand just did) you are violating the law.
the 6/5 map created by a bipartisan commission is jim crow?
Watching CNN, you’d never know that Jim Crow laws were actually implemented in Virginia for a long time in history. And you’d certainly never know which party implemented them.
