A Georgia congressman is proposing a controversial new idea -- he’s calling the “Make D.C. Square Again Act." He said it would expand Washington, D.C. by adding Arlington and Alexandria into the nation's capital.
In a post on X, Congressman Rick McCormick said Arlington and Alexandria were “always meant” to be part of D.C., arguing the change would simplify long-running debates over political maps and representation.
"What we want to do is make D.C. square again. It's a simple concept. Square. We repeal that unconsituational law, gIve back Virginia exactly what it should have, give D.C. what it should have and get this thing right," McCormick added
The proposal comes as Virginia continues to debate congressional redistricting, with McCormick suggesting his plan could have avoided it.

Then the Democrats will definitely make it a new State..............
It would take a lot of Dem voters out of VA.
Yes, but it would add 2 Dem Senators to the Senate..............
This approach MIGHT, in the short term help the Pubbies but is not really a viable solution.
It will simply create a larger base of D-voters and raise the bias of empaneled juries in DC.
It would give the court system an unfair political advantage and be outside of any electoral consequences.
The existing quitclaim to Virginia should be invalidated. The original District was Constitutionally mandated, albeit unfortunately not specified. Ceding it to Virginia was an accommodation to slavery.
Wouldn’t it take a constitutional amendment to give DC statehood representation?
If Arlington had not been retroceded to Virginia, George Allen would have been re-elected as senator and there would not have been enough votes for Obamacare in the Senate for it to pass.
The Fairfax DS control of VA isn’t quite enough.
That idea has been thrown around since I was in high school in Alexandria.
Neither Virginia nor Maryland residents would ever submit to becoming part of the District.
That I know.
Stupid idea. The distrct should be shrunk down to about 20% of its current size encompassing just the govt related buildings. There would be small part of business and residential within that area. Send the rest to Maryland.
why stop there? I'm ready to break New York into 2 or 3 separate states. Anything to get woke, bloated, welfare-marxist NY City out, and turn the rest of the state land-mass into a normal place.
The Dems are thinking of making City-States of New York City, Chicago, L.A., and others.....................
Still more ☭Dem_Scams!
and return Virginia to the Republican column.
“Wouldn’t it take a constitutional amendment to give DC statehood representation?”
No. Not if democrats take control of congress.
I don’t think “raising the bias” in DC means much. What is the effect of going from 85% to 99% ?
Is this Mumbai McCormick?
Then they will get a Muslim Governor.
