Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) on Monday announced the death of his 36-year-old daughter, who had suffered from juvenile diabetes.

“We are heartbroken beyond words by the passing of our beloved daughter, Madison, 36, after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues. She filled our lives with love and laughter, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void,” Warner and his wife, Lisa Collins, posted in a statement on X.

“We are grateful for the loving support of friends and family during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we navigate this profound loss,” he added.

Madison is survived by two younger sisters. The three were introduced to the political spotlight in 2001 when Warner was elected governor of Virginia.

Very sad to hear this. Regardless of anyone's politics, this is the kind of thing that should break the heart of anyone of good conscience. No parent should have to lose a child like that.

Vice-President Vance has made a statement saying that the Warner family will be in his prayers. I think that would be a good thing for the rest of us to do, too.

I pray he retires for the sake of his family to grieve.

It should have been him that died.

"I pray he retires for the sake of his family to grieve."

He enjoys the benefits of the job too much to do that. Where else can you commit crimes and get away with them, but in the U.S. Senate?

Very sad. Most people with T1D live healthy normal lives with the aid of insulin dosing and technology (Continuous Glucose Monitoring and insulin pumps). It is still a non-trivial burden but most don’t die prematurely from it. For some people their blood sugars are harder to control.

Almost nobody says “juvenile diabete” nowadays, but this rat couldn’t help manipulating using loaded words.
Leftists do it at every occasion, even tragic ones, what a cynical creep.

Ideally no one should outlive his or her children.

Agreed. It feels like it is against the natural order of things.

My two best friends (brothers) from an early age both were diagnosed with Diabetes at under age one. They made it to age 42 and 66. Died from heart attacks and ruptured aorta with lost legs / toes along the way.

Juvenile diabetes is a devastating condition to live with.

As a family practitioner I had many in my practice over the years who, increasingly debilitated over time eventually went into renal failure, diabetic encephalopathy, developed decubitus ulcers from peripheral neuropathy, had multiple lower extremity amputations, retinopathy/blindness and entered hospice, some as young as 18.

OTOH I had many IDDM (Type 1, Insulin-Dependent diabetics) who learned very early on (some as young as five when diagnosed) how serious a condition this was and how to manage diet, exercise, dose their insulin correctly and consistently, had all the oppthalmological, podiatric and other specialty exams done regularly.

It’s not easy, but many can and do learn to work within their limitations.

very sad. my prayers go out to Warner and family that they find peace.

My now 28 year old granddaughter diagnosed at age 6 after almost dying from DKA thank God is still thriving with a monitor and insulin pump. Concerned for her continued health especially with this story of a 36 year old succumbing to the condition. As her grandfather I feel for this father and the trauma of his loss after a hard battle for decades.

It is not necessary to put out into the world every thought that I have about someone else. I always thought it was bad karma.

A man losing his daughter has got to take a toll.

I will keep them in my prayers. And I will say a prayer for you as well.

"And I will say a prayer for you as well."

Don't bother. I'm not a phony who pretends to feel sorry for him. In 2017, Warner repeatedly texted lobbyist Adam Waldman who worked for sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, trying to set up a meeting with Christopher Steele using the Signal app. It's the same app Warner bashed top Trump administration officials for using to discuss plans for a strike on the Houthis in Yemen. Warner specifically told Waldman to use Signal because he didn't want anyone else in the Senate to know what he was doing. In his own text words, he "didn't want to leave a paper trail."

Warner was also drunk at a fundraiser in 2018 at a fundraiser at his house on Martha's Vineyard and blurted out: 'If you get me one more glass of wine, I’ll tell you stuff only Bob Mueller and I know. If you think you’ve seen wild stuff so far, buckle up. It’s going to be a wild couple of months."

I feel sorry for his wife and the rest of the family for their loss, but I won't be a liar and send this asshat my condolences. His daughter was a better person than her father is.

That’s OK. I already sent it up. You’ve probably done other stuff that needs prayer. Consider it a credit on your ledger.

Among most lay people, “juvenile diabetes” is a disease that is distinguishable from Type 2 adult onset. Type 2 still carries a stigma among those who think it only arrives because people can’t push themselves away from the table.

There’s nothing cynical about making the distinction.

Very sad for her and her family. Some people never “recover” from the loss of their child.

diabetes, has killed most of my cousins and uncles/aunts and my brother. My son and I also suffer from diabetes, though we are managing it. I see it in so many veterans at tha VA, and it’s a monster.
