Will Yellowstone erupt or are we blowing things out of proportion?
We may have underestimated Yellowstone’s potential to blow its stack in the future. Chinese scientists have made a disconcerting find regarding the mechanism behind the caldera’s eruption, sparking concerns that it could belch lava sooner than we’d hoped, per an explosive study in the journal Science.
A study on the mechanism behind the Yellowstone supervolcano’s magma flow has sparked concerns that an eruption could be on the horizon.
Contrary to prior scholarship, which suggested that the magma originates in large deep chambers, the new study suggests that it could be lurking just below Earth’s surface.
The team, from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, had set out to study the engine behind supervolcanoes — volcanic expulsions that eject over 230 cubic miles of magma, rock and ash.

A Yellowstone supereruption would be a global catastrophe, initially destroying everything within a 50-mile radius via pyroclastic flows. It would dump feet of toxic ash across the Midwest, paralyzing the US, destroying infrastructure, and causing massive, long-term global climate disruption (a "volcanic winter").
Here are the specific, devastating consequences: Regional Destruction: A 50-mile radius (including parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho) would be obliterated by, "pyroclastic flows"—fast-moving, hot ash and gas. National Ash Fallout: Ash would cover much of the United States, with significant depths (>1 meter) within 1,000 km. This ash would collapse roofs, halt transportation, and kill crops. Global Climate Crisis: The eruption would release millions of tons of sulfur, blocking sunlight and reducing global temperatures by roughly 10°C for 6 to 10 years. Agricultural Collapse: The US, and likely global, food supply would fail, leading to widespread famine. Economic Impact: The estimated financial damage to the US could exceed $3 trillion, potentially threatening the nation's position as a global power.
Chinese propaganda.
We have only ten years to stop the eruptions!
A global eruption tax will be essential to address this.
Yellowstone Fear Porn. Count on it at least once a year.
Clever author uses interesting words: “sparking concern”, etc.
We’re DOOOOOOOMED!!!
All that extra weight of our military ships in the Strait of Hormuz plus all of those loaded tankers just sitting there during the blockade is squeezing the magma out of Yellowstone on the opposite side of the earth!
It's like toothpaste in a tube, I tell you!

...or at least as long as Trump is in office.
Title: Yellowstone Nearing Eruption
Body: “... which means we have about 100,000 years before the next eruption”.
Yes, we are getting real close. Clickbait.
Somebody on FR posts something simillar to this about Yellowstone at least every 6 months for the past 10 years.
Everything coming out of China is poisoned or fake.
The good news... Global warming will the last thing you’ll need to worry about.
I live not too far down range, so am somewhat sensitized/aware.
However, we also need to be Space Rock intersectionality concerned.
I knew we’d Beat those Tree Huggers!
China Slop...
The Yellowstone hotspot has produced three major, caldera-forming supereruptions over the past 2.1 million years (2.1 Ma, 1.3 Ma, and 631,000 years ago), with an average interval of about 600,000 to 800,000 years. Hawaii is another example of the crust moving over a hot spot. This is why there is a chain of islands and submerged mountains.
More Boeing 737s from Wichita going into the drink?
In other news, Andromeda Galaxy to collide with Earth much sooner than previously predicted.
