UK to host more talks on reopening Strait of Hormuz shipping route
The Standard ^ | April 10, 2026 | George Thompson

Britain will host further talks on reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lane with a coalition of countries next week.

The meeting will continue the Government’s efforts to restore freedom of navigation to the strait, which provides shipping routes for oil and gas.

It comes after the Prime Minister spoke to Donald Trump about the need for a “practical plan” to get ships going through the area amid suggestions Iran wants to charge vessels for passage.

An official with knowledge of the planning has said the meeting is expected to look for ways to support a sustainable end to the conflict and focus on increasing international diplomatic pressure on Iran to reopen the strait.

This includes exploring coordinated economic and political measures, such as sanctions, and working with the International Maritime Organisation to secure the release of thousands of ships and sailors trapped in the strait.

It would be the third meeting hosted by Britain regarding the issue this month, after the Foreign Secretary virtually brought together more than 40 nations last week and a gathering of allied military officers on Tuesday.

Why are they “talking”?

Iran has no right to block travel in the Strait of Hormuz.

All ships preventing travel should be sunk. Period. End of story.

No “negotiating.”

"No 'negotiating.'"

In Britain, "negotiating" is another word for appeasement.

What a joke. As though they have the military might or strength of purpose to effect the situation. Just more posturing...dithering to look important.

Starmer is trying to keep one of his financial masters, Lloyd’s of London, relevant.

That’s rich.

We’ve got this one.

PM Queer Stormer should blocade the Channel and stop the Mohammed’s Invasion of Blighty.

Haven’t we seen this movie before?

And why are the Brits getting involved in this?

When did they turn into coat holders?

Self righteous Iranians will walk out three or four times, stalling to get to the midterms.

Like the months of pointed disagreements during the Vietnam War about the shape of the conference table for ceasefire and peace talks.

Youn FReepers may think I’m joking. Not a joke.

Key Aspects of the Table Dispute:

North Vietnam’s Position: A round table ensured no party, especially the NLF, would be treated as inferior, aiming to show they had an “equal” voice in negotiations.

South Vietnam’s Position: They sought a rectangular table to portray the conflict as a direct dispute between two governments (North vs. South), objecting to the NLF being seated independently.

The Compromise: After months of delay, a compromise was reached, placing a large circular table for the primary representatives, with smaller, separate square tables for other delegates around it.

Alternative Ideas: A Super-elliptical table was proposed by a Danish designer to resolve the impasse by balancing the space for major and minor parties.

It’s cute how Starmer is pretending to be relevant.......as if he has anything to do with what is happening.

My take is that Trump needs to talk less and do more. Deal with NATO when Iran is obliterated.

“Sir Keir appeared to indicate he had not raised his frustrations directly with Mr Trump during their call, saying only that their conversation had focused on the need for a “practical plan” for the strait.”

LOL, he’s the guy who shows his bravado after the threat is gone. I expect once they are convinced hostile actions are finished, he will show their commitment and announce that UK air bases are fully open for US aircraft.

When the day comes where Mr. Nuke is knocking on Europes door, and they come crying about brotherly love and our moral need to help, what then?

Europe as a whole is a disappointment (big picture). They are consistently trying to avoid paying their share (many). They consistently engage is ankle biting like France does. If they do help, most try to do as little and late as possible, assuming support roles, and jockeying for more safe / secure areas in the AO.

They are quick to call for our help, Serbia, Ukraine, etc. But slow to help when we call upon them.

The question is, do we abandon newer and more reliable allies that have a threat picture and do back us up? Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine (busy now and still helping), Romania, usually the UK (sad what happened recently with them). We would be “Throwing the baby out with the bathwater” by abandoning NATO.
