The Swamp Still Looks Pretty Healthy Waiting for accountability in Trump’s second term.
American Thinker ^ | 03/23/2026 | Brian Joondeph

Posted on 03/24/2026 6:02:58 AM PDT by thegagline

*** The promise from President Donald Trump was clear: expose it, clean it up, and drain the swamp. Now more than a year into Trump’s second term, many voters are beginning to ask a simple question: Where are the results?

***Approval ratings for FBI Director Kash Patel are slipping. Only 40 percent of likely voters view Patel favorably. Even more striking, just 32 percent believe he is performing better than previous FBI directors, while 37 percent think he is doing worse.[Rasmussen Reports]

*** During the campaign, Trump promised unprecedented transparency on a series of long-running controversies that many Americans believe were never fully explained.

These include the still-classified records related to the September 11 attacks, unanswered questions surrounding the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, the long-promised audit of America’s gold reserves at Fort Knox, and the complete investigative files surrounding convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and his mysterious death inside a federal jail. There are also lingering questions about the two assassination attempts against Trump during the 2024 campaign***

Each of these issues carries its own history of secrecy, redactions, and incomplete disclosures. Trump’s promise to “drain the swamp” created the expectation that Americans would finally see the full record. So far, that reckoning has not arrived.

*** If Republicans lose control of Congress in the midterm elections, many investigative efforts will stall. Should the White House change hands in 2028, the likelihood of additional disclosures would disappear entirely. Files will be sealed. Witnesses will fade from public view. Political priorities will shift.

*** For millions of Americans who spent years watching investigations aimed at one side of the political aisle, the question is becoming unavoidable. If the swamp was supposed to be drained, why does it still look so healthy?

Promises made, promises forgotten.

Our elections remain rife with fraud.
-Only 30 miles of new border wall has been built since January 20, 2025.
-DOGE hasn’t had an update since October 3, 2025.
-Those who employ illegals have been largely given a free pass. Only 11 employers of illegals have been prosecuted since January 20, 2025. Of those, only 3 were incarcerated.

The lack of action has really turned a MAGA friend off on Trump. He’s not the only one. It could affect mid terms. We really need some action on the promises, big time, by late Summer.

For millions of Americans who spent years watching investigations aimed at one side of the political aisle, the question is becoming unavoidable.

When the Democrats want to "get you", they just go and get you. They throw people in jail, they fine people, they bankrupt people, they destroy reputations, they tie people up in court. The Democrats have a million ways to use the legal system to cripple you if they don't like you.

Republicans? We are prepared to carry out dulsatory investigations for 10 or 20 years before deciding that things are mostly OK.

Patel and Bongino were clearly threatened, and Bondi may have been, also. Trump needs an army behind him to clear out the Swamp, but the only one available is riddled with Obama plants. I’m not sure what the best play for Trump is, here. Foreign policy successes aren’t going to give him enough additional political clout to overcome DC’s inertia, let alone active saboteurs.

I think it’s hard to fault Trump on much of this. The swamp is much more murder than imagined, with federal judges and politicians on both sides of the aisle in full resistance mode.

I think that's all really unfair.

always viewed "the swamp" as the unelected and unaccountable bureaucracy that ran all the government administrative agencies. I think the Trump Administration has generally done an outstanding job of unwinding them as much as possible since taking office. Firing bureaucrats, closing agencies like USAID, etc..

Our elections remain rife with fraud.

How is that Trump's fault? He's pushed as hard as he can on the SAVE Act. And it looks like SCOTUS is going to ban states from counting ballots after Election Day - a huge win.

Only 30 miles of new border wall has been built since January 20, 2025.

That's a Dem talking point. Nothing could begin until finding was approved, and the Administration got $46B appropriated - massively more than in the first term. They had to get bids out, contracts signed, permits, etc., but it is on sched to get completed in 2028. You don't hear anything about it because the battle is over. The Democrats lost.

DOGE hasn’t had an update since October 3, 2025.

DOGE was never intended to be permanent. It came up with recommendations, some of which were implemented, and some of which require legislation. It was formally disbanded in November, which is why there have been no updates.

Those who employ illegals have been largely given a free pass. Only 11 employers of illegals have been prosecuted since January 20, 2025. Of those, only 3 were incarcerated.

I really can't understand complaining about immigration enforcement, where the Administration has been as tough as it can possible be given legal constraints. Proving that employers knowingly violated immigration law when most illegals have bogus paperwork is much more difficult than it sounds.

“The lack of action has really turned a MAGA friend off on Trump. He’s not the only one.”

**********

The lack of political will to pursue accountability is not surprising. Republicans are not exactly known as being a party of action. And why should they suddenly change when their base doesn’t force them to produce results?

The sad thing is that without accountability nothing will ever change. Bottom line: The Republicans don’t do accountability and so the DC Swamp dwellers keep winning.

After a year of inaction, it is not realistic to expect anything out of the Justice Department as long as Pam Bondi and Todd Blanche are in charge of the DOJ and Kash Patel is running the FBI. The statute of limitations has placed Russiagate, the Hillary Clinton private server issue, and most of the wrongdoings associated with the 2016 and 2020 elections beyond prosecution. Besides, most of such cases would take place in the District of Columbia, a leftist stronghold. However, the Mar a Lago raid occurred in August 2022, still within the five year window and which took place in South Florida, not exactly the Bible Belt but also not a Washington, DC or Northern Virginia. Also, the kangaroo courts where the January 6th protesters were railroaded are still marginally in play. If the DOJ and FBI run out the clock on these matters, we can be assured that Patel, Bondi, and Blanche are swamp creatures.

The Swamp is hard. Anyone in politics over 6 yrs is Swamp. That’s a straightforward definition. It eliminates DeSantis and Rubio. But we have FR types ignoring it.

9 months until STILL NOT IN JAIL team Hillary starts takes revenge on US!

In Trump’s defense, he’s accomplished a ton in only 14 months since he took office. Further, he did this while being constantly restricted by activist judges and obstructionist Democrats (along with some obstructionist Republicans).

There are a whole lot of leftists furious at Trump over the many things he has changed. Immigration policy has done a 180. He's fired a ton of executive branch employees who were being obstructionist. He eliminated long standing leftist government agencies like USAID and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. They eliminated trannies in the military.

I am not a "fan" of the President, and disagree with him and some of the things he has said and done. But the man has unquestionably brought a lot of badly-needed changes in the direction of the country, and has been the single most effective President ever in terms of fighting the unelected bureaucracy.
