Trump might have lost the political plot — but here’s how he can still win the midterms
NY Post ^ | 02/05/2026 | Mark Mitchell

Donald Trump did not win the 2024 election because America suddenly became meaningfully more Republican.

He won because voters, many of them independents and crossover Democrats, many of them young, had lost trust in the system and believed he was willing to confront it. I’m the head pollster for Rasmussen Reports. In our final 2024 polling, 42% of Trump’s electorate came from independents and Democrats.

That is not a MAGA monoculture. It is a fragile coalition built on one thing: accountability......

This can still be fixed, but only if Trump remembers why he was elected. Not to manage the system. Not to appease donors. Not to chase viral moments. Make the System Fear Consequences Again.

Americans are not asking for chaos. They are asking for justice.

And they are still waiting.

Excellent article with some excellent ideas. While Trump and the GOP's numbers are trending in the wrong direction (Per Real Clear Politics) the mid terms are definately salvageable. The alternative in unthinkable.

Problem is why do we keep trusting the LSM and their polls to tell us what is the mood of America, when have they ever NOT lied?

These polls and their articles are to misinform and provide cover for fraud / election cheating. That is what we need to operate from when reading this stuff.

A midterm win by the Dems will effectively negate all that was gained by Trump’s win in 2024. But, I’m probably stating the obvious.

The quote about Independents and crossover Democrats is quite weak.

The usual crossover vote in every presidential election is about 10% in both directions so the quote about Independents and crossover Democrats should probably have stopped at Independents.

They are anti Swamp. They care less about immigration, affordability, healthcare, or the Fed chair then they do about throwing the bums out whoever they happen to be, and they mean throw them out of the bureaucracy. Not particularly Congress. The bureaucracy.

They applauded Musk and Doge. But they laughed in disgust at the BBB. Why? Because it did nothing. It reduced the debt not one single penny. Hand waving and contortion and scribbling numbers on paper and projecting them forward 10 years to try to find that penny is the single event of the year that drove Independents away.

Not a single penny of debt reduction. The upheaval from debt reduction is utterly terrifying, to everyone whose nose is in the trough. And that terror led the BBB to do nothing.

It’s all pretense. It’s all talk about what can happen in 10 years when absolutely everyone on the planet knows that within just half of those 10 years the policies will change.

Nihilism is necessary and if it is avoided the GOP will be kicked out.

If a Republican Congress doesn’t pass legislation that solidifies “all that was gained by Trump’s win” into law instead of executive policy, then does it really matter who controls Congress anyway?

My view is that the solidification is yet to come.

In the coming months, the existing Democrat party in totality is going to be destroyed

Denial ain't a river in Egypt. Ignore at your peril. But remember Mark Mitchell is a Rasmussen pollster. That is a GOP friendly poll and it still shows Trump and the GOP in trouble. If Trump keeps 100% of MAGA but loses independents and cross over Dems, he and the GOP will get wiped out. He needs to win back independents and cross over Dems who feel let down because of the lack of results so far.

Mitchell is giving suggestions as to what should be done to keep the promises made in 2024. If Trump can do that, then the GOP (and MAGA) will win the midterms. Again the alternative is unthinkable.

Anyone who doesn’t think we will be pre-1994-Contract with America after November is willfully ignorant.

If a Republican Congress doesn’t pass legislation ...

Unlike the democrats, the R party is divided. A simple thing like eliminating the filibuster should have been done long ago. EOs should have been made into Bills and at least voted on.

There are so many mostly Dems with unexplained surges in wealth. I don’t know why they all don’t have IRS audits? I thought sudden increases of net worth triggered audits? The probability of wealth from fraud here is very likely.
Secondly, with all the mayhem in the signal chats, I would expect many Dem politicians connected to domestic terrorism. Why these groups haven’t already been infiltrated by US intel agencies is disappointing.
During the Biden administration, investigations were launched with bogus predicates and charges were brought on “novel” untested legal theories.
Now we have ample justification to investigate and charge dozens of Democrats. All we hear is “it takes time”

I am not seeing it.

Republicans squandered what the voters gave them.

Excellent article with some excellent ideas.

Not really. This is the kind of flawed analysis that comes from obsessing over meaningless poll numbers all the time.

"a federal E-Verify mandate is ridiculously popular. Why have Republicans been unable to pluck this low-hanging fruit?"

That might actually involve actually standing up to a few well-financed donors. So that's off the table

Ignore at your peril. But if you want to put your fingers in your ears and say “la la la la it doesn’t matter” then you (and we) will be in for a very sad November.
