It would be interesting to have a requirement that any elected official must have created a certain amount of real wealth in some way. Grown a business. Employed people. Extracted resources. Exported goods. You wouldn’t have any socialists in government because those people have no idea how to create wealth, they just redistribute (steal) the wealth made by non-socialists.

Mebe.
He did work to revitalize and breathe life into the City of Buffalo.

He sold some of his properties, now he is selling his Buffalo home.

The Buffalo communist/marxist will have to find someone else to fleece

Buffalo is crumbling and dying.
The population is leaving in droves.

This rebuilding will require brains, energy and cash.
Please step up to stop the bleeding and revitalize the once great city of Buffalo.
Please show us, and Doug, how that is done.

I feel bad for Buffalo but its decline come from us not keeping industries and production at home. I am sure Buffalo was once a mega production city.

Offshoring to China and Asia. Blame Wall Street and hack politicians, sellouts all of them. Many got wealthy and mega rich from sending our production to China and Asia.

New York is, effectively, the former East Germany

It’s a one-party, ideologue state, and government in the state takes its political orders from the capital. Any large project involves the state and the capitals for money, and politics is always considered, and also involves 5 different court cases.

People looking for opportunity must flee West

Oh, and it snows a lot too.

I know because I live there.

I feel bad for Buffalo but its decline come from us not keeping industries and production at home. I am sure Buffalo was once a mega production city.

Buffalo lost its major industries to Japan and other US states even before China came along.

New York was once the Empire State. It was the world center of technological advancement, industry, trade and finance. Buffalo was the first city in the nation to(and possibly world) to have mass electrical power and lighting. It had NYC's money and advanced infrastructure.

New York was also the home, and laboratory, for American Progressivism (ie. Socialism). so it allowed leftist politics to dominate, government to grow, and regulations to multiply.

Buffalo's decline began in the 1960s when Japan and Germany returned as economic competitors, inflation surged and wokeism was born out of progressivism.

New York, once a very Republican state, itself was able to maintain a balance between the Left and GOP up to the 1990s. Often the State Assembly would be Democratic, but the State Senate would be Republican. Governors would shift between traditional Democrat and the GOP. That arrangement at least kept the neo-marxist crazies out of power.

That ended 20+ years ago. NY State is now a completely one-party, woke, broke welfare state, dominated by NY City and its demands for other peoples' money.

Upstate cities like Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse have suffered the worst of their declines, but they will never grow with the rest of the Country.

I visited Utica NY last year, and its downtown buildings looked like something straight out of 1958 - frozen in time. One would expect Beaver Cleaver to come walking out of a store.... Instead it was all Pakis men and women in black niqabs

Its NY Progs failed Brave New World.

I get the impression that the state of New York, at least those areas more than a two hour drive or train ride from Manhattan, is a kind of a Yankee Appalachia, where industry, other than tourism, has fled and the remaining population, native white and black Americans or otherwise, are heavily dependent on state and Federal handouts.

100% correct. I say the same thing in my East Germany comparison. NY City is not thriving, per se, but in addition to its Fed.gov welfare money, it can skim from Wall Streets earnings, is a media and entertainment center, and power base for America's left. So it elects people like Zohran Mamdani and continues to exert its influence. Its politics dominate Albany and the rest of NY State

Upstate has indeed turned into a form of Yankee Appalachia.

Buffalo peaked at 580,000 people, #15 in the USA!
Today they are bumping along at $276,000
https://www.biggestuscities.com/city/buffalo-new-york

They retain geographic strength like access to power (Niagara Falls), and a port on Lake Erie.

I speculate same root causes as Detroit
