As recent American military deployments to the Middle East and President Donald Trump’s escalatory rhetoric have heightened speculation of an imminent attack on Iran, there are increasing signs that such action would trigger a regional and even global “Shiite jihad,” particularly should the U.S. take out Iran’s clerical leadership. This would present a new phenomenon which is likely to pose daunting security challenges, not least for the United States itself.
In a recent speech, the secretary-general of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement, Sheikh Naim Qassem, warned that a new war on the Islamic Republic would engulf the entire region. The assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in particular would have dire regional and even global implications, given the large masses of Shiite Muslims who subscribe to the Wilayat al-Faqih doctrine, according to which Khamenei is leader of the Islamic ummah.
“A war on Iran this time will ignite the region,” Qassem declared, and any harm done to Khamenei “would be an assassination of stability and of the situation in the region and the world, due to the spread of the supporters and advocates of the Wali al-Faqih [Khamenei].”

But I would contend the current Shiite jihad against the United States started in 1979.
And the larger jihad against infidels before there was a United States.
No “shiite” Sherlock.
It’s not like they haven’t been doing it for 1400 years already.
Exactly, a sunny day could provoke a Shiite jihad.
It could. The West earned it, unfortunately when it did not guard its borders.
Or a Sunni day.
That reminds me.
The historically defining characteristic of Shia Islam it the jihad against all the other Muslims.
Their jihad could have a money problem , Trump will not let countries support it with money
Shiite jihads are an ugly thing.
I’ve seen some of Muqtada al Sadr’s work. Horrible people.
So like any other day?
Let’s say there are hundreds of sleeper cells here in the US waiting to strike. Then what?
Is yahoo email down?
The one in Iran yes.
There is also the Sunni one that began in the 1930s.
It is sort of like standing outside a burning building and the guy beside you saying that you should not light up because it will start a fire.
Uh-huh.
There was a song that came out during the Iran hostage crisis, or maybe even during the Lebanon barracks bombings, and it had lyrics, “I ain’t afraid of no chicken shiite”
Sounds like a bluff to me.
When jihads are met with effective force, they tend to die down.
Let’s always remember that Jimmy Carter gave us the Islamic Republic of Iran, vastly increasing modern-day terrorism worldwide, killing and enslaving millions. He also gave us the Department of Education, which took us from #1 in education to indoctrination camps, ruining millions of American lives.
The treachery of Jimmy Carter should not be memory-holed. The Left wants us to think he was a nice Sunday school teacher who built houses for the poor.
It’s unlikely the US will take any action directly against Khameni and his thugs, they’ll likely just strip away his military and policing power and see how he gets along without armed guards. If they felt it necessary to murder 36,000 of their own citizens to maintain order, it goes without saying that their domestic tranquility is not the best.
The reason Iran is so virulently anti-Israel is that that’s a rallying point that assures the cooperation of all the other Shiite countries. But truth be told, none of them are particularly happy that Iran has it’s Persian slipper squarely on their necks.
So if you’re one of the Shiite countries that’s jealous of Iran’s hegemony, are your interests better served by going jihadi on the US, or by helping undermine the Ayatollah?
A real Shiite storm.
> Let’s say there are hundreds of sleeper cells here in the US waiting to strike. <
I’m guessing there are informal cells everywhere, in mosques and in family units. Sort of like old-time militia units, minding their own business until the urge moves them.
Jonty30 is right. The West did not guard its borders. So now there are Muslims everywhere. And the old saying applies:
Every Muslim is a moderate. Until he isn’t.
The West for 50 years has been playing a giant game “Let’s pretend!”!
My first thought was, “What are they going to do, engage in terrorism against us?” There’s already a jihad against us, so there’s nothing to lose (and much to gain) by helping the Iranian people (who are mostly Shiite) to overthrow the mad mullahs. Anyway, since when has a theoretical threat deterred Donald Trump?
Comments BUMP! Jihad never ends. It’s a long war. It’s in their head. Zombies.
And the larger jihad against infidels before there was a United States.
