The last time gasoline was this cheap, 4% inflation seemed alarming, JD Vance was still a private citizen and the United States had only just begun its messy withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Gas prices dropped below an average of $3 a gallon in the United States on Tuesday for the first time in four-and-a-half years, according to AAA.
The milestone represents a rare feel-good story in a years-long affordability crisis marked by high prices for necessities.
The national average for regular gas dipped to $2.998 a gallon, compared with $3.001 on Monday. Pump prices are down about six cents in just the past week and are below $3 for the first time since May 2021.
Gas is also cheaper than it was last year, albeit modestly. The national average a year ago was $3.05 a gallon. Last month, gas prices were briefly more expensive on a year-over-year basis.
Prices are even lower in many parts of the country.
According to AAA, the average price for gas is below $2.75 a gallon in 18 states, including New Mexico, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Iowa and Colorado.

President Donald Trump has made lower energy prices a central focus of his second term, vowing to keep a lid on prices at the pump by embracing a “drill, baby, drill” agenda of deregulation and support for fossil fuels.

The most amazing part of this story is that CNN reported it with a positive spin. Usually, they harp on things like gas prices when Trump is in office until the prices go down, then they ignore the price drop and move on to some new manufactured bad news for Trump.
Gas is down, eggs are below $2/dozen - not one PEEP from liberals who embraced Bidet’s destructive economy that destroyed families who were forced to choose between food and utilities and maxed out credit cards.
Sad news for the anti Trump trolls here.
On the other hand, for those of us using diesel fuel, the price has risen.
I think that might be the result of winter heating fuel demand, but don’t know for sure.
Locally, gasoline prices have been below $3 for so long I don’t remember when the price was that high
Taxes are the lowest in 4 years.
I seriously doubt the poor folks in California have seen any decline....It is about $2.29 cents in Tulsa.

When your food has to make 15,000 miles worth of travel to your table, it gets expensive. The unwitting addiction to portion packaged, pre-prepared processed foods is insane. The plastics, cartons, labels, modifiers, preservatives, colorants, foil films, nitrogen flush gas, each from different sources in different regions, all to bring "Instant Mashed Potatoes" to your table......
Idiots.
not one PEEP from liberals “
Instead what we get is Nikki’s kid crying about “affordability” crushing gen z futures
Costco was selling gasoline as low as $2.37 in November in Huntsville al.
If you left out Blue states in the equation it would be closer to $2.50. $2.30 here in the Heart of Texas.
Not in Newscum’s Kalifornia.
You're right, $4.49 a gallon here in Northern California.
Regular ethanol is 2.38 here but diesel has gone back to regular plus a dollar at 3.28. Gas down and diesel up.
Diesel is more important to me.
In CA and NV gasoline is a lot higher as a result of a number of refineries (thanks to Newsom) shutting down in CA.
affordability
lower gas will ripple thru the supply chain not just at the pump
Here in california it’s 4.15 at the cheapie gas stations.
$2.09 Neosho, MO.
AAA’s website reports that ‘average’ price for unleaded regular gas in Pennsylvania is still $3.21 per gallon. We can thank our feckless representatives in Harrisburg for our high gasoline taxes. We used to be amoung the lowest states for gasoline prices. Now we’re consistently among the highest.
I’m also mindful of the suffering going on in California were they’re paying north of $5 for the same gas.
$2.41 Here in Radcliff, Ky. Not tired of Winning Yet !
