The FBI has sent ominous letters to members of California Governor Gavin Newsom's inner circle after his former chief of staff was indicted on corruption charges.
Dana Williamson, who served as Newsom's top aide from early 2023 to the fall of 2024, was hit with 23 felony charges earlier this month for conspiring to divert $225,000 of campaign money to another staffer.
Now, a host of political operatives with links to Williamson have been notified that they were surveilled during the course of the investigation into her actions.
Letters reportedly began arriving in mailboxes immediately after she was charged informing the impacted individuals.
According to The New York Times, a 'handful' of Newsom's current and former aides received the ominous letters.
The FBI is required by law to notify people if they have been subject to surveillance.
The scope of the surveillance dated between May 2024 and July 2024. During this time, communications for all those involved were intercepted.
This does not mean those surveilled were the targets of the investigation.
'People are on edge,' longtime Republican strategist Rob Stutzman told the Times.
While he did not receive a letter himself, and has no involvement in the case, he said 'there's a lot of wondering if this is all there is to it.'
Newsom himself is not named in the case, nor is he accused of having any involvement or knowledge in the crimes. It is not alleged that he received one of the FBI letters.
Upon learning that she was under federal investigation, Newsom's office placed her on leave in November 2024. She formally quit a month later.
'This is not the kind of thing I'm used to seeing in public service,' he said after the charges were made public.

Concerns? That is a knee slapper. These types of shennanigans are resume enhancers to Dems and rarely held to account by Uniparty Pubs.
Good example is Jay Jones. He’s now AG in VA after threatening to put two slugs in a Rep and kill his children.

——-
Tell me they used random letters cutout from magazines and pasted them on a page. Lie if you must.
ominous letters.is this a legal term
Looks like Gavin Newscum's inner circle has been having intercourse with The Daily Male!
I do not believe it. The hallmark of Newsome and his crew is petrified arrogance.
Doesn’t sound serious enough to get him booted from office, darn it.
FBI sends letters notififying the recipient they are a target of investigation and should lawyer their ass up.
Of course not. Gavin's ALREADY been "taken out". In CA's case, the top guy was removed, to expose the rats underneath.
Trump Truthed this post on August 30:

The next day, August 31, Newscum's "press office" posted this:

Newscum, wherever he is, is toast. And, his accomplices are now going down as well.
Do they supply hair gel to inmates at Federal prisons?
Going after the pawns of Greasy Nuisance?
That’s the spirit! lol
An outstanding “mainstream” Rat!
Nope.
Ominous is a mischaracterization
Actually, the letters were notifications that there was surveillance.
“...ominous letter...”
Is that worse than a strongly worded letter that Republicans always threaten to send?
This is not the kind of thing I’m used to seeing in public service.
It’s called busted
