Trump is willing to do whatever is necessary to keep drugs from flowing into the US. Mexico and Colombia have been added to Trump’s naughty list.
US President Donald J. Trump made statements yesterday (17) to the effect that he supports military strikes on cartels in Mexico and Colombia, setting the tone for an anti-drug operation in Latin America that would be much larger than expected.
By supporting kinetic action against narcotics production in Mexico and Colombia, Trump made it clear that the series of strikes on drug boats in the Caribbean and Pacific is just the start.
Reuters reported:
“Trump has intensified his campaign against maritime drug trafficking, authorizing more forceful interdiction operations and giving U.S. forces expanded authority to disable or sink vessels suspected of carrying narcotics.
Asked at an event in the Oval Office whether he backed similar ground strikes in Mexico to stem drug trafficking, Trump said: ‘OK with me, whatever we have to do to stop drugs’.”
Embattled Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who had a major protest with militants trying to invade her Presidential Palace, reacted to Trump’s statements.
Later in the press conference, the US President also raised the prospect of ‘targeting cocaine laboratories in Colombia’.
“’Would I knock out those factories? I would be proud to do it personally’, Trump said. ‘I didn’t say I’m doing it, but I would be proud to do it because we’re going to save millions of lives’.”
Last week, Petro ordered Colombian security forces to stop sharing intelligence with U.S. intelligence agencies.
This is to take place until the US ‘stops attacking boats in the Caribbean’.

I think the Navy’s nightly Caribbean Cartel Barbeques are a real hoot. Barbeque ‘em boys!
Good! If we’re going to take military action against Venezuela to stop drug trafficking, we should be doing the same in countries that are responsible for far more drug trafficking.
20 + boats and counting. But I have not seen any reports that this is making a difference on the street. Could it be that existing inventory is so big as to be able to absorb these recent interuption of supply ?
Well intentioned as it is we are talking about invading sovereign countries. If it is extremely targeted and focused then maybe so. But I thought Trump was going to be less inclined to invade other countries.
“sovereign country”
Mexico is run by competing narco-terrorist organizations.

Interdicting drugs is an excuse. This is the Monroe doctrine with missiles. Russia and China are using Venezuela and others in the region as bases for human intelligence and electronic spying. Also, they have solid relationships with cartels and communist insurgencies. This is an attempt to throw both countries out of South America. The drugs are simply the raison d’être.
Another kind of tariff, heh heh.
Yeah you can say the United States is run by the Deep State or whoever. Heck some of the politicians in this country are probably controlled by the cartels. :-)
“sovereign countries” that have facilitated the illegal invasion of America....remember the 9-11 report; “they were at war with us but we were not at war with them”?
The Monroe Doctrine at work for you.
Yeah well many politicians in this country facilitated the illegal invasion of this country. Lots of imperfect people and countries in this screwed up world.
Have college STEM competitions of which school can build the best, most cost effective anti-drug boat UAVs, UUVs, and USVs.
Amen. They’re waging chemical war on us killing up to 100,000 per year.
JDAM them back to the Stone Age.
Remember the Bay of Pigs?
Had the AGM-65 Maverick existed in 1961, Havana would be the Dubai of the Caribbean, and today might well be the Capital of the Americas instead of Miami.
Monroe Doctrine on steroids if fine by me.
