Happening now:
That suspect did reportedly get inside the airport before police quickly stopped him.
Police are holding a press conference shortly after 3 p.m., which can be viewed at this link:
The Atlanta mayor said the individual, 49-year-old Billy Cagle, was stopped with a Springfield AR rifle variant with 27 rounds of ammunition, and has been diagnosed with a mental illness. The man is a convicted felon, meaning he should not be in possession of firearms. Police said he is known in the Cartersville area as a drug offender.

Around 9:30 a.m. EST, Cagle arrived at the airport and seemed particularly interested in the security line, which was longer due to staffing shortages on Monday. He had parked his Chevy flatbed truck immediately outside in the drop-off area and was in the process of returning to it when he was apprehended.
In addition to charges of making terroristic threats, Cagle has been charged with unlawfully owning a firearm.
We will update this article with more details as we learn them.
SO ...
It reads like he did not go into the airport carrying the rifle. He was just in possession of it?
FWIW, it’s a bit of a longish walk from that drop off area to the security lines. He’d be ‘noticed’ if he was open carrying a rifle with a mag inserted.
I predict that we will hear more and more and more about this guy than we did about Thomas Matthew Crooks (the slanted roof expert who tried to kill Trump).
He’d be ‘noticed’ if he was open carrying a rifle without a mag inserted!....................
Those Photos did NOT show a man with a rifle in his walking possession.
Such bad reporting.
you mean the guy who was quickly cremated after they washed of the roof?
Sounds like a Party of Death, No Kings, backshooting Luigi rioter.
Not William Joseph. Billy Joe.
He should have jumped of the Tallahatchie Bridge..........
-PJ
What RAT D.A. or RAT Judge released him after a recent arrest?
Never saw that news report, but I believe you.
I can’t say for certain, but ATL might be a different environment for noticing a long gun.
Sounds like a classic democrat:
- drug user
- mentally ill
- felon
- illegally possess arms
- weapon in weapons free zone
Is there a 30 round law in Georgia?
Airport sh**ting suspect identified as 49-year-old convicted felon Billy Joe Cagle from Cartersville, Georgia.
Cagle was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (the world's busiest airport) after making threats to "sh**t up" the facility.
Officials say the arrest prevented a potential mass sh**ting, with Mayor Andre Dickens stating that "27 or more lives could have been lost today."Timeline:
~9:30 a.m. ET: Cagle entered the airport unarmed after live streaming threats on social media, apparently to "scope out" the location.
~9:40 a.m. ET: Cagle's family, concerned after seeing his livestream, called Cartersville police, who immediately notified the Atlanta Police Department (APD) of the threat.
~9:42 a.m. ET: APD officers located and arrested Cagle inside the airport without incident.A search of his parked pickup truck outside revealed an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle.
Cagle has a prior criminal history, making his possession of the firearm illegal. Officials, including Mayor Dickens, believe he may have been experiencing a mental health episode at the time.
According to APD Chief Darin Schierbaum, Cagle planned to return to his truck, get the rifle, and carry out the attack in the crowded terminal area.
The quick response was made possible by the family's calls to the cops.Cagle is facing charges of:
✅Terroristic threats
✅Criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault
✅Possession of a firearm by a convicted felonAPD Chief Darin Schierbaum saying "He came in to scope it out... He was going to go back out to his truck and get the g*n and come back in and do what he said he was going to do." Mayor Andre Dickens adding, "This could have been tragic but was averted... A crisis was averted today."pic.twitter.com/7HONcu1OIH— Donnie Cope (@dcopechatter) October 20, 2025
He doesn’t just use them. He offends them.
***has been diagnosed with a mental illness***
Another crazy who would have been in a mental hospital if this was still the 1960s. The mental hospitals were closed down in the 1970s and crazies dumped on the streets. When that happened the murder rate by crazies took off like a rocket.
