An LGBT organization in New Braunfels is hosting a drag show on Saturday that is being marketed as “all ages.”

While the Riverside Pride Festival was originally slated to take place at the Comal County Fairgrounds, the event has since been moved to an alternate location—Faith United Church of Christ.

The Comal County Fair Executive Board released a statement Tuesday evening explaining that the LGBT organization had decided to move the event following concerns over “age appropriateness.”

The "United Church of Christ" is the successor to the Congregationalist churches of the Northeast. There was a merger with the largely German-American Evangelical and Reformed Church in 1957. The United Church of Christ was considered one of the Seven Sisters of mainline Protestantism and like the others has a geographic distribution concentrated in the Northern tier states and has seen a sharp decline in membership since the 1960s. Since this church is in the heart of the German settlement of the Texas Hill Country, its heritage is likely from the Evangelical and Reformed Church. In turn, the Campbellite church diverged on issues such as the use of musical instruments in worship and the sending out of missionaries. From these controversies the Churches of Christ arose. Members tend to be politically conservative. Churches of Christ are concentrated most heavily in the American South, particularly in Texas, Tennessee, and Alabama, which are home to nearly half of all congregations.

Haven’t been through New Braunfels in ages. When I venture south from North Texas, I stop at Highway 290, aka Winery Row. However, I can’t afford Fredericksburg anymore, they’ve priced me out of the market. So, I’ll spend a day there, while staying in Driftwood or Dripping Springs. Saves me about $100 a day in hotels.
