On the first day of a federal government shutdown, New York City is finding out how expensive its commitment to leftist principles of "diversity, equity, and inclusion" is going to be under President Donald Trump's administration.

Russ Vought, the White House Office of Management and Budget director, took to social media on Wednesday to announce the administration has frozen federal funding for two major transportation projects in the Big Apple.

And even in New York City, $18 billion is a lot of money.

Russ Vought (on X)

@russvought Roughly $18 billion in New York City infrastructure projects have been put on hold to ensure funding is not flowing based on unconstitutional DEI principles. More info to come soon from @USDOT . 7:54 AM · Oct 1, 2025 · 2.2M Views

ALL NYC construction projects and particularly public infrastructure projects cost more per mile than anywhere else in the U.S. and more than other places in the world, and many of the reasons are due to politics and regulations and corruption in New York City and state.

All federal funds for any public infrastructure project should be weighed against the cost of public infrastructure projects around the country and the federal share, by way of grants, should not be greater than the median cost per mile in grants to other states. More expensive states, like New York, should have to make up the expensive differences on their own.

Meanwhile, all such projects should be examined to be sure state DEI politics is not preventing merit from being the determining factor in all work, including all contracts and subcontracts for any project the federal government is a part of.

C’mon, Man!

There are plenty of left wing wacko billionaires. Heck, isn’t Madmandani’s family rich? Just have each of those left wing billionaires contribute 10% for the big city.

‘Mandummy’ is going to be a be the “hard luck” mayor from the financial center of the United States.

It should be embarrassing for NYC capitalists, but they’ll survive just fine.

The New York “money market” is international, while the the socialist mayor is dependent on the amount of money he can extract from NYC citizens, the Federal Government, and payoffs from Albany.

The guy is jumping into a fire, with no way out.

It seems to take too long for NYC to repair roads. I wonder if no-bid contracts to less qualified Minority and Women Owned businesses is leading to poor quality expensive construction that isn’t well-built. Just a wild guess. Remember Wolman Rink!

Until the RICO Act, NYC had an alibi, that the Mob was clippin’ out the money. Now we know.
